Breeding Techniques for Muscovy Ducks

Breeding ducks are kept for laying eggs and reproduction, so we need to place some soft dry grass inside the pen to help the Muscovy ducks lay eggs. In addition, we must provide adequate nutrition to ensure their healthy growth. The specific management methods are as follows:

Vaccination

After breeding ducks are selected and kept, they begin laying eggs in about one month. 3——5 days before entering the laying period, we need to administer a vaccination. Duck triple disease vaccine can be used, with the dosage standard of 1 milliliter per Muscovy duck, injected into the thigh muscle of the Muscovy duck. After that, a dose of 0.5 milliliters should be injected every 1 month. This can help prevent duck plague and avian influenza.

Feeding

During this period, complete feed for laying ducks or breeding laying ducks can be used. At the same time, attention should be paid to the calcium and phosphorus ratio in the feed, which can be mixed according to the ratio of feed, calcium, and phosphorus at 5:2:1. We feed three times a day, at 7 a.m., 1 p.m., and 6 p.m. respectively. The amount fed each time is based on 6% of the Muscovy duck's individual body weight. After about 2 months, they will enter the peak laying period. At this time, we should add protein to the feed, based on 200 grams per kilogram of feed. This helps achieve high and stable production.

Drinking Water and Disinfection

The water trough at the breeding site must never be without water, and the quality of the drinking water must also be ensured, with timely water changes every day.

Disinfection work during this period is essential. We disinfect once every 3 days. An 800-fold diluted solution of Shuanglüjing can be used to spray the entire shed. This not only ensures the health of the Muscovy ducks but also prevents the laid duck eggs from being contaminated.

Sanitation and Cleaning

At this stage, both male and female Muscovy ducks bear enormous tasks. They not only eat a lot but also produce a great deal of excrement. Therefore, we must clean the pen every day. Not only should the entire pen be swept, but the water trough should also be rinsed clean to ensure hygiene and create a comfortable environment for the female ducks to lay eggs.

Egg Collection

Muscovy ducks lay eggs at irregular times, so we need to collect eggs every 3—5 hours. Eggs in places that are easy to pick up can be directly placed into a bucket. When there are many eggs, a tool similar to a slotted spoon can be used to scoop up the duck eggs and then put them into the bucket. These duck eggs can be sold for consumption and can also be used for incubation to breed the next generation.
