Detailed Explanation of Key Points for Raising Commercial Muscovy Ducks

Managing commercial ducks takes about 3 months, and what kind of management should we do well during this period? Below, the editor of Qiannong Network will introduce to everyone what the feeding and management techniques for commercial Muscovy ducks actually are!
Feeding
During this period, the main thing is to feed pellet feed specially for poultry, twice a day, with the amount fed each time based on 4% of the individual duck's weight. The feeding times can be chosen from 7 to 8 in the morning and from 5 to 6 in the afternoon each day. What needs to be reminded is that Muscovy ducks have two feather-pecking peaks: one is at 1 month of age when the tail feathers grow, and the other is after 2 months of age when the wing feathers grow. To reduce feather pecking, we should pay attention to promptly adding some sulfur-containing amino acids and additives for treating feather pecking to the feed, such as feather meal and Tingzhuo Ling, both of which are fine. The ratio of feather meal to feed can be mixed at 1:5; while the ratio of Tingzhuo Ling to feed is based on 1:7. This can effectively stop their feather-pecking behavior.
Drinking Water Management
Muscovy ducks drink a very large amount of water, so the water trough must maintain sufficient drinking water, and we must pay attention to frequently changing the water to ensure the water quality is fresh and hygienic.
Site Disinfection
Muscovy ducks like to flock together, and they excrete droppings anytime and anywhere, which makes it relatively easy to breed pathogens. Therefore, we must disinfect the pen every day. Shuanglüjing can be chosen, mixed into an 800-fold diluted liquid, and then evenly sprayed into every corner of the pen.
Sanitation and Cleaning
In order to create a clean and hygienic living environment for Muscovy ducks, we must clean every day, rinse the pen clean, and especially dirty places must also be cleaned with a brush. When rinsing, we must be serious and careful, not missing any corner, so as to avoid breeding bacteria and bringing adverse factors to the growth of Muscovy ducks.
Epidemic Prevention
While Muscovy ducks grow rapidly, they are prone to duck plague or avian influenza. For this, prevention is mainly relied upon. We must vaccinate once every month, and duck triple disease vaccine can be chosen. At 30 days, the standard is 0.5 ml per duck injected; at 60 days of growth, the standard is 1 ml per duck injected. In this way, they will rarely have disease occurrences.
After about four months of management, the weight of commercial ducks can basically reach 3000 kg. At this time, they can be sold on the market, and at the same time, we should also keep a portion of breeding ducks for laying eggs and reproduction.
Selection of Breeding Ducks
We can select and keep breeding Muscovy ducks or egg-laying Muscovy ducks according to a male-to-female ratio of 1:4—5. What needs attention is that when selecting female Muscovy ducks, we should choose female ducks with small heads, long necks, and large eyes; while the standard for male Muscovy ducks is large body, robust, and agile movement. After breeding Muscovy ducks are kept, wing clipping must also be done, because at this time they are already about to have the ability to fly. In order to prevent the Muscovy ducks from escaping, we clip their wings.
Wing Clipping
We just need to cut off the 5——6 feathers at the tail part of the Muscovy duck's wings. These feathers play a balancing role in the Muscovy duck's flight. As long as the feathers on one wing are cut off, they will have no way to fly.
