Chaozhou, Pingtung fruit farmer Pan Lianjin develops golden native mango

(Taiwan Business News) The skin is yellow, and the size is like that of a native mango. Peel it and eat it, and it tastes just like a native mango. This is the golden native mango that Chaozhou fruit farmer Pan Lianjin succeeded in developing after five years of research, and it can be marketed in large quantities this year.
People who have seen this kind of golden native mango cannot help but wonder, how was it grown? Pan Lianjin said that this is actually a native mango. Generally, native mangoes do not need bagging, and the skin is green, but they are easily stung and eaten by insects and flies, so they often need to be sprayed with pesticide. Golden native mangoes, however, are put into black fruit bags as soon as the small fruits form, blocking out sunlight. Without exposure to the sun and without photosynthesis, the skin turns yellow. The method is the same as for Jinhuang mango, and from bagging to harvest is about 60 days.
Pan Lianjin said that the method of harvesting golden native mangoes is very special. Just shake the trunk a few times, and the ripe fruit falls by itself into the fruit bag. Then use a specially made bamboo pole with a collection net attached. Pull each firmly bagged fruit one by one, and the fruit and bag slide together into the net. He said that they ripen naturally, with no spraying of growth hormones and no over-harvesting, let alone pesticides. He sent the product to a testing center for pesticide testing, and there was almost zero detection.
This year, more than 2 hectares of native mangoes have already had 150,000 bags put on. At present, only a small amount is being harvested, and the main production period is expected to be from mid-May to the end of June. Because golden native mangoes are absolutely unique on the market, many bulk supermarkets are very interested and want to buy the entire orchard's output, but Pan Lianjin does not want to put everything into a single market, because online home delivery is very much in demand. The current price is about 250 yuan per 1 kg. He especially emphasized that food safety issues have caused consumer doubts. Golden native mangoes have no pesticide residue, are not sprayed with growth hormones and are not over-harvested, and ripen naturally. He guarantees that what you eat is all naturally yellow, with fine fibers and a sweet, fragrant taste. Once you eat it, you will definitely become addicted.
