How to improve the breeding capacity of breeding geese? Practical methods shared

Select excellent breeding geese
When selecting breeding geese, in addition to considering market demand, you must also consider reproductive performance and adaptability. Keep individuals that are healthy, normally developed, outstanding in reproductive traits, and conform to the characteristics of the breed. Select ganders that are robust, have good semen quality, and have no stray feathers for breeding.
Strengthen the rearing of replacement geese
Replacement geese younger than 4 months old should be given sufficient full-price feed. Where grazing conditions are available, after sufficient grazing, supplementary concentrate feeding should also be given as appropriate; under housed feeding conditions, full-price feed should be given at fixed times without restriction, generally 3 to 5 times per day. For replacement geese from 4 months of age until before laying and mating, restricted feeding should be implemented, increasing the amount of roughage and appropriately reducing concentrate, with particular emphasis on strengthening grazing, exercise, and eating enough green feed. Raise male and female geese separately. Starting 15 to 20 days before the beginning of laying and mating, gradually increase the amount of concentrate fed.
Optimize the flock structure
In production, old male and female geese should be culled in a timely manner, and new geese should be added promptly. Generally, the service life of female geese does not exceed 3 years, and the service life of male geese does not exceed 4 years.
Adopt scientific supplementary feeding during the breeding season
Geese have obvious seasonal breeding, generally from October to May of the following year. In order to obtain a large quantity of high-quality breeding eggs, scientific supplementary feeding must be carried out. The method is: feed supplements 4 times a day, at 7:00 and 11:00 in the morning and at 3:00 and 7:00 in the afternoon, with 200 grams of concentrate per bird, plus 0.5 to 1.0 kg of green grass and vegetable leaves, and about 0.25 kg of distillers' grains, sweet potato or carrot, mixing the concentrate and roughage well before feeding.
Ensure sufficient mating
Generally, for large goose breeds the male-to-female ratio is 1:3 to 4, for medium breeds 1:4 to 6, and for small breeds 1:6 to 8. Artificial insemination is one of the most effective and best methods for improving the fertilization rate of breeding geese.
Reasonable lighting
Generally, a lighting duration of 13 to 14 hours can meet the needs of geese for laying and mating.
Feed a full-price compound feed
For laying breeding geese, each kilogram of compound daily ration contains 10.3 to 10.7 megajoules of metabolizable energy, 16% to 17% crude protein, and a calcium-to-phosphorus ratio of 2.5 to 3:1. The compound daily ration should be based mainly on high-quality green, succulent feed and concentrate, while supplementing vitamins and minerals. Provide free access to drinking water and free access to water for swimming. In order to improve the egg production of breeding geese and the fertilization rate of breeding eggs, breeding geese should be fed a full-price compound feed.
Do a good job of disease prevention and control
Vaccination or drug prevention and treatment must be carried out for common local diseases. The pens must be cleaned 1 to 2 times a day, and every half month a comprehensive disinfection of the goose house and exercise yard should be carried out with disinfectants harmless to geese such as Baidusha. Broad-spectrum antibacterial drugs should be regularly added to the feed. Non-staff personnel are prohibited from entering and leaving the breeding goose farm, and on-site staff must also undergo strict disinfection before entering the goose farm.
