(Taiwan Business News) The "Health 2014 Grandpas and Grandmas Dance-Off" community senior vitality creative talent stage competition was held yesterday at the Tainan Living Aesthetics Center, with seniors over 65 years old from all 37 districts of the city and the CPC Corporation community gathering together to showcase their talents, with a total of more than 1,500 participants.

This is the 3rd year the Grandpas and Grandmas community senior vitality creative talent stage competition has been held. Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te specially took time out of his schedule to attend and emphasize that the event helps maintain health.

Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te pointed out that Tainan has more than 229,000 seniors over 65 years old, accounting for 12.2% of the city's population of over 1.88 million, which is higher than the national average for seniors over 65. In order to help seniors live healthily, autonomously, and with dignity, the Tainan City Government has rolled out multiple social welfare policies.

Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te believes that today's event not only helps seniors with their physical health, but also relieves their mood and relaxes their emotions. In particular, dance masters gathering together to "battle" with dance skills is full of joy and novelty.

The organizer, the Tainan City Health Bureau, stated that 38 teams registered for the "Health 2014 Grandpas and Grandmas Dance-Off" community senior vitality creative talent stage competition. The participating teams fully showcased local community characteristics, from costumes and props to dance design, whether health exercises or creative opera, each performance was a rich visual feast that made people smile. Among them, Dongshan District used a grandfather and grandson storytelling format to describe amusing anecdotes from the era when grandparents were young; Qigu District had multiple seniors in wheelchairs participating together, which was admirable in spirit; and there was even a grandma as old as 96 participating, the oldest senior in this competition.
