Ten thousand students across Taiwan delight in receiving scholarships; new "Public Welfare Care" category added to encourage outstanding disadvantaged students
(Taiwan Business News) In recent years, Taiwan's largest-scale scholarship program, the "Cathay Customer Children Scholarship," which in 2014 once again drew enthusiastic applications from more than 80,000 young students, will hold a public draw ceremony on 5/19, hosted by Cathay Financial Holdings; every student who meets the application eligibility criteria has a chance to take a scholarship home. This year Cathay Life Insurance has continued to add a "Public Welfare Care" application category for customers, hoping to use this activity to help more groups of people in need.
The draw ceremony was jointly presided over by senior Cathay executives, including Senior Vice President Li Weizheng of Cathay Financial Holdings and Cathay United Bank, Manager Fan Qianhui of Cathay Life Insurance, Assistant Vice President Du Wende of Cathay Century Insurance, Vice President Chen Junsheng of Cathay Securities, and Vice President Jiang Zhiping of Cathay SITE, and invited CPA Huang Jianze of Ernst & Young, along with representatives of group customers and colleagues, to attend as witnesses and draw the list of scholarship winners.
Cathay Life Insurance first began holding the "Cathay Customer Children Scholarship" in 1977, and this year marks its 38th year; since 2006 (the 95th year of the Republic of China calendar), Cathay United Bank, Cathay Century Insurance and Cathay Securities have also participated jointly. Each year it attracts numerous students to apply and is the scholarship activity in the country with the longest history and the largest number of applicants. This year the total scholarship amount is as high as 30 million yuan, and 10,700 students are expected to be drawn; among them, students in the college group who are drawn can receive a 3,000 yuan scholarship, while students in the high school group can receive a 1,500 yuan scholarship. Students who are not drawn but pass the eligibility review can also each receive one exquisite commemorative gift, the "NBA Fashion Grooming Kit," and one "Certificate of Award," thereby encouraging students to participate in the application; the certificate can also serve as a supporting document for future school advancement.
After the draw is completed on 5/19, the list of those drawn is scheduled to be announced soon on the Cathay Life Insurance website (www.cathaylife.com.tw) and the Cathay United Bank website (www.cathaybk.com.tw), and the scholarships will be distributed by remittance.
In addition, to encourage young students to devote themselves to their studies while also training their bodies and promoting a sporting atmosphere, Cathay Financial Holdings this year continues to hold the "2014 Cathay NBA Youth Madness College 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament." Passionate basketball players should hurry to register online (www.youthmadness.com.tw/registration.php).
