Parent crayfish selection techniques

Parent crayfish refers to sexually mature male and female crayfish used for breeding fry. The quality of the parent crayfish directly affects the quality of the fry, so the selection of parent crayfish is especially important. Here we will briefly go over parent crayfish selection techniques. Parent crayfish can be selected in September-October of the previous year or March-April of the current year, requiring a body weight of 30-50g, complete appendages, good health without disease, and strong activity, with a male-to-female ratio of 2-3:1.

Differences in appearance between male and female crayfish

1. Males are noticeably larger than females.

2. The male's crayfish claws are thick and large, with a bright red soft wart on the outer side; the female's crayfish claws are relatively smaller and have no red soft wart, and even if there is color, it is pale.

3. The male's genital pore opens at the base of the 5th pair of walking legs, while the female's genital pore opens at the base of the 3rd pair of walking legs.

4. The female crayfish's abdomen is swollen and enlarged, while the male crayfish's abdomen is relatively narrow and small.

Through the above 4 methods, you can easily distinguish male from female crayfish. By matching the parent crayfish according to the male-to-female ratio, you can get off to a good start in breeding fry.
