How should live crabs be stored

How to store live crabs? The principles of storage are keeping them still, at low temperature, away from light, and moist. When room temperature is high, especially in September and October, the crabs should be tied up well; if they are packed in cattail-leaf bags, tie the whole bag tightly.

Moisten the outer packaging, but not to the point of dripping, and place it in the refrigerator's cold-storage compartment. If it is not a whole bag, cover the tied crabs with a damp towel, and keep the storage temperature at 5-10°C.

Storage method one

Refrigerator storage for Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs. Tie up the legs and the crabs——to reduce the crabs' physical exertion, then place them in the refrigerator's cold-storage compartment and cover them with a damp towel; they can be kept for more than seven days.

Storage method two

Plastic bucket/basin storage for Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs. Put the crabs inside——they must not be stacked; then add water to half the height of the crabs——mainly to keep them moist, but do not submerge the crabs completely, because you are unlikely to have aeration equipment, and if the water is too deep the crabs will suffocate and die from lack of oxygen. The basin/bucket does not need a lid; check the crabs every day and promptly eat any crabs that are not lively enough. With this method of storing Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs, when the temperature is not high, the crabs can be kept for more than 5 days.
