What documents are required for bamboo rat farming

The Chinese bamboo rat (Rhizomys sinensis) is a non-key protected wild animal. Artificial domestication of the Chinese bamboo rat requires a domestication and breeding permit for non-key protected animals and a wildlife business permit. The domestication and breeding permit for non-key protected animals and the wildlife business permit are examined and approved by the municipal forestry competent department.

Application conditions

1. There is a fixed site suitable for domesticating and breeding wild animals and the necessary equipment.

2. There are funds, personnel and technology suited to the species and number of wild animals being domesticated and bred.

3. The sources of breeding stock and feed for domesticating and breeding wild animals are guaranteed.

Application procedure

1. The applicant submits an application to the county forestry bureau, then submits a feasibility report covering the farming scale, technology, funds, market analysis and other relevant content for the Chinese bamboo rat, along with proof of the legal source of the Chinese bamboo rat breeding stock and photos of the farming site.

2. The county forestry bureau's wildlife and plant protection management station then conducts an on-site verification.

3. If the verification confirms that the conditions are met, the applicant fills out the application form for domesticating and breeding wild animals and for selling, purchasing and utilizing wild animals or their products (in duplicate), and the county forestry bureau's wildlife and plant protection management station then submits the application, application form, feasibility report and other relevant materials to the municipal forestry bureau's wildlife protection section for examination and approval. After the municipal bureau approves them, the “two permits” are issued.

In addition, after the two permits are processed, an individual business or private enterprise business license should also be obtained from the local industry and commerce department.
