The soil you use for growing flowers is crucial. Let me teach you how to make your own leaf mold. Prepare a little every year, and you'll have soil to use year after year.

How do you make your own leaf mold?
Xiao Qi is from the countryside, where there are plenty of trees planted along the roadsides. Every autumn, a large number of leaves fall down. Xiao Qi always collects some and piles them separately into a container. Xiao Qi uses a big water vat, putting all the leaves inside, one layer of leaves and one layer of soil. Until it is completely filled, with the topmost layer being soil, and lets it ferment that way. Both the soil and the leaves must be kept wet. The top is completely covered with plastic. After fermenting for about three to five months, the leaves have all rotted. Once the leaves and soil are mixed together, that is genuine leaf mold.
There is also this: if we are in the city, we can go to green belts or green areas in residential communities, places with big trees. The layer of surface soil under a big tree is excellent leaf mold. Because each time the leaves fall, they drop under the tree and gradually rot. After collecting a layer of the surface soil and taking it home, put it into a transparent plastic bag, add some water to make it wet, then put it out in the sun to bake. Generally, after two to three months it can be taken out and used directly.
Normally we can collect some dry leaves at home ourselves. Don't throw away the leftover peanut shells, sunflower seed shells and the like from Chinese New Year. Collect them all, soak them thoroughly in water together, fish them out and put them into a plastic bag. Seal it up and leave it to dry in the sun. After about half a year, these peanut shells, sunflower seed shells and the like have completely fermented. They crumble easily with a squeeze of the hand. Once they have fermented well, before using them we should soak them with carbendazim, or just water the planting hole with carbendazim solution directly when planting to kill off the bacteria. Using this to grow flowers is very good. It is rich in nutrients and also drains well. Just find any corner and toss it nearby where it can see the sun. And it won't be stolen by anyone. Ferment a little every year, and the next year you'll have all the soil you need for growing flowers for the whole year, with no need to spend money buying it.
If you grow flowers, collect some of this regularly. Your plants will grow well, with thick, sturdy roots and lush foliage!
