Golden Shower Trees Bloom: Chiayi City Draped in a Rain of Gold

(Taiwan Business News) The golden shower trees planted along Ziyou Road, Shixian Road, Youzhong Road, and Zhongxiao Road in Chiayi City have entered full bloom, with strings of golden-yellow flowers falling like a fine golden rain. Under the blazing sunlight, the yellow blossoms appear even more dazzling, swaying in the wind like wind chimes, as if waving to greet the public and preparing to welcome the arrival of a passionate summer together. The breathtaking scenery attracts people to stop and admire, and take photos.

The golden shower tree is native to India and is a deciduous tree. Its peak blooming period is from June to August each year. Whenever the flowering season arrives, the drooping petals hang from the treetops like strings of chandeliers. As the flowers gradually bloom, the tender green leaves that were originally on the crown also fall, and the golden-yellow flowers take their place, covering the entire crown. As the flowers fade and the wind rises, petals fall one by one like bursts of fine rain, full of romance and elegance, which is why it is called the golden rain tree.

The golden shower tree belongs to the Fabaceae family. When it bears fruit, the seed pods are cylindrical, long stick-like, and slightly curved, and when mature they turn dark brown, so it is also called pig intestine bean, Persian senna, and ox horn tree. Because the long stick-like seed pods often hang high on the treetops alongside the elegant flowers, this strikingly abrupt scene of flowers and fruit coexisting is unique to the golden shower tree.

The Chiayi City Government stated that in addition to several important roads, golden shower trees are also planted in Qiming, Chiayi, Changrong, and 228 Memorial Parks. The public is welcome to visit and enjoy the happy feeling of being surrounded by a rain of gold.
