The difference between Yellow Dragon Jade and Yellow Wax Stone

Before Yellow Dragon Jade was officially named, many people called it “Yellow Wax Stone”. Yellow Wax Stone gets its name from the waxy texture and color inside the stone's surface layer. It belongs to silicified andesite or sandstone, with quartz as its main component. The main components of Yellow Dragon Jade include silicon dioxide and muscovite, and it also contains metal elements such as iron, aluminum and manganese as well as more than 40 trace elements. Let's take a look below at the difference between Yellow Dragon Jade and Yellow Wax Stone!

The difference in composition between Yellow Dragon Jade and Yellow Wax Stone

1. Yellow Dragon Jade: The main components of Yellow Dragon Jade include silicon dioxide and muscovite, and it also contains metal elements such as iron, aluminum and manganese as well as more than 40 trace elements. However, unlike crystal, it is not a single crystal but a polycrystalline composite similar to jadeite and Hetian jade. Its hardness is comparable to that of jadeite, with a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7. Its toughness is better than that of jadeite but slightly lower than that of Hetian jade.

2. Yellow Wax Stone: Yellow Wax Stone belongs to silicified andesite or sandstone, with quartz as its main component. Its oily, waxy surface layer is a low-temperature melt, and it has strong toughness, with a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5. Because different minerals were mixed in during its geological formation, there are varieties such as yellow wax, white wax, red wax, green wax, black wax and multicolored wax. Also, because of differences in the purity of silicon dioxide, the size of quartz particles and the melting condition of the surface layer, it can be graded downward into frozen wax, crystal wax, oil wax, gel wax, fine wax, coarse wax and so on. Frozen wax can be translucent all the way to the center of the stone.

The difference in origin between Yellow Dragon Jade and Yellow Wax Stone

1. Yellow Dragon Jade: Yellow Dragon Jade is a new type of jade discovered in Longling, Yunnan in 2004. Gem-grade Yellow Dragon Jade of excellent quality is mainly produced in the Xiaoheishan Nature Reserve in Longling County, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province and the surrounding Supa River basin. It is very close to the jadeite-producing area of Myanmar, and both belong to the Yunnan-Myanmar gemstone and jade metallogenic belt formed by the mutual compression of the Eurasian Plate and the Indian Ocean Plate. This place has a very high primary forest coverage rate, complex terrain, diverse climates and very abundant rainfall, and is known as the "rain screen of western Yunnan", providing very unique and irreproducible natural conditions for the formation of excellent jade.

2. Yellow Wax Stone: Yellow Wax Stone is mainly produced in the Guangdong and Guangxi regions, and the material produced along the Dongjiang River in Guangdong (Heyuan) and in Chaozhou has the best texture, with pure stone color. Other production areas include Guangdong, Jiexi, Fogang, Shaoguan, Qingyuan, Zijin, Taishan, Kaiping, Dianbai, and Liuzhou, Hezhou, Zhongshan and Jinxiu in Guangxi, as well as the Xinjiang River basin in Jiangxi. In texture, smoothness and fineness are most prized.

The difference in color between Yellow Dragon Jade and Yellow Wax Stone

1. Yellow Dragon Jade: The colors of Yellow Dragon Jade are divided into pale yellow, golden yellow, orange red, tangerine red, pigeon-blood red, pale red, golden orange red and so on. These tones are the most active, most flourishing, most noble and most vital and infectious auspicious colors among warm tones. This is the first factor that makes Yellow Dragon Jade highly favored and valuable.

2. Yellow Wax Stone: By color, Yellow Wax Stone can be divided into four major categories: yellow wax, red wax, white wax and black wax. There are not only stones with red showing through yellow, white showing through yellow and black showing through yellow, but also multicolored wax stones with multiple colors in one stone. However, Yellow Wax Stone takes yellow as its basic color, hence the name Yellow Wax Stone.

The difference in value between Yellow Dragon Jade and Yellow Wax Stone

1. Yellow Dragon Jade: Yellow Dragon Jade has the warmth and smoothness of Hetian jade, the color of Tianhuang, the hardness of jadeite and the flexibility of Shoushan stone. It has both the fibrous structure visible in jadeite and radish patterns similar to those of Tianhuang. It has both the satisfactory “water head” of jadeite and a better “oil head” than Hetian jade, and its vitreous luster is even more fascinating. In addition, the main colors of Yellow Dragon Jade are yellow and red; yellow implies “wealth and honor” and red implies “auspiciousness”. It can be enjoyed as rough stone and is also suitable for carving into various ornaments and accessories. It is deeply favored by consumers and has become a new favorite in today's jade collection.

2. Yellow Wax Stone: Yellow Wax Stone is silicified andesite or sandstone containing iron and quartz. Its stone surface is moist and fine, soft to the touch, with a jade-like texture, dazzling color and luster, and strange, endlessly varied shapes. It is simple and natural, has high ornamental value, and is an excellent stone type for displaying in halls and decorating gardens.
