Crab claw cactus (Schlumbergera) is a green plant loved by many flower enthusiasts. It belongs to the Cactaceae family as an epiphytic succulent plant, has particularly high ornamental value, and can also be grafted onto other plants. Under normal care, crab claw cactus rarely gets sick, but as summer arrives, once the temperature exceeds 30°C it enters a semi-dormant state, its resistance drops, and combined with an overly humid environment, it becomes very prone to illness. These 3 diseases in particular are the easiest to get; one moment of neglect and even the whole pot has to be thrown away. Flower enthusiasts who need this can save it in advance!

1. Anthracnose

In the high-temperature, high-humidity environment of summer, crab claw cactus is especially prone to anthracnose infection. It mainly affects the phylloclades. In the early stage of the disease, small water-soaked yellow spots appear on the leaf surface, then slowly turn into irregular brown or yellow-brown patches, with small black dots arranged in concentric rings, and it quickly spreads to other leaves until the whole plant is affected.

Prevention and control: Pay attention to ventilation at ordinary times, and do not let water accumulate in the pot. If the branches are too dense, prune some of them appropriately. At intervals, spray the plant with 0.1% Bordeaux mixture. In the early stage of the disease, remove the affected leaves promptly, and spray the plant with 60% zineb diluted 100 times, once a week, for 3-4 consecutive sprays.

2. Rot disease

Rot disease is mainly a disease caused by high temperature and high humidity. After crab claw cactus is affected, the tissue at its base becomes brown and soft-rotted, then gradually spreads to both sides, and finally spreads to the whole plant, causing necrosis.

Prevention and control: Control watering appropriately and increase the air permeability of the soil. In the early stage of the disease, promptly cut off the affected tissue, along with a portion of the surrounding healthy leaves, apply sulfur powder or use 3 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture on the wound, and then spray the plant with carbendazim.

3. Leaf blight

Leaf blight often occurs at the tips of young leaves. When it develops, it progresses from top to bottom, causing the leaves to gradually turn yellow and wither. It is mainly caused by a fungus attacking the roots, and is a physiological disease mainly caused by excessive watering or heavy fertilization. When this happens, quickly prune off the affected parts, then take the plant out of the pot, trim the roots, and replant it.

That is all for the 3 diseases of crab claw cactus. If flower enthusiasts have other additions, you can share them with everyone in the comment section below. If you want to learn more about flower-growing knowledge, you can follow Huajianke!
