Leisure Farms in Taipei City: The Best Choice for a Family Outing

(Taiwan Business News) Domestic leisure agriculture has developed rapidly. So far, there are 74 leisure agriculture areas and 304 leisure farms across Taiwan, each with its own characteristics and different styles, and the local specialty agricultural products also leave a lasting impression on visiting tourists. Leisure agriculture is a highlight industry for Taiwan. It is estimated that this year domestic tourist visits to leisure agriculture will reach 22.5 million, with 320,000 foreign tourists, creating an output value of 11 billion yuan. The income of farms that also operate leisure farms is 4 to 5 times that of general agricultural income. For example, farming and livestock operations that also engage in processing or leisure activities have an average income of 1.808 million yuan per household, 5.3 times more than the income of households engaged solely in farming and livestock raising, which can greatly improve the rural economy.

Taipei City's leisure agriculture began in December 1980, when the Taipei City Government, the Taipei City Farmers' Association and the Muzha District Farmers' Association promoted the establishment of the Muzha Sightseeing Orchard, becoming the first sightseeing farm established in Taipei City and providing busy urban residents with an excellent nearby space for colorful leisure activities.

Today, the sightseeing farms in Taipei City are mainly distributed on the hillsides on the south and north sides. The northern side is concentrated in Beitou District, Shilin District and Neihu District, while the southern side is located in Nangang District and Wenshan District. Agriculture in the north is mainly fruit, vegetables and flowers, while the south is mainly tea and green bamboo shoots. Therefore, Taipei City truly has abundant resources for developing leisure agriculture.
