Tainan Indigenous Arts and Culture Restaurant Leads Fashion and Art

(Taiwan Business News) Tainan's first Indigenous arts and culture restaurant combining fine dining, art and dance has finally officially opened at No. 705-707, Section 2, Yonghua Road, amid great anticipation. The owners, four Atayal sisters, worked hand in hand to realize their dream. Chief Executive Officer Huang Lingxuan said: "We hope that through the establishment of this restaurant, we can create job opportunities for Indigenous people and promote the agricultural, handmade and artistic works of our people. This is the shared wish of us sisters."
Stone slabs and grilled meat - Indigenous restaurants have always given people the impression of a stir-fry joint, but that is about to change. The Indigenous arts and culture restaurant not only features a stage with Indigenous dance performances, but also an art gallery displaying works by Indigenous amateur artists, taking a high-end and refined approach that challenges Tainan's market acceptance. With Indigenous dishes such as wild boar and wild vegetables, plus a karaoke machine, many people picture Indigenous restaurants as being like stir-fry shops or karaoke bars, with Indigenous music playing and a budget of at most 500 yuan per person for a meal. However, the Indigenous arts and culture restaurant in Anping District, Tainan City overturns this stereotype. Each Indigenous set meal starts at more than 1,000 yuan, and diners can also enjoy refined Indigenous arts and culture during their meal, including professional dance performances and exhibitions of works by Indigenous amateur artists.
Chief Executive Officer Huang Lingxuan readily admits that high-priced Indigenous cuisine is a challenge in the market, but she also believes that Tainan City, as an ancient cultural capital, will be more accepting of Indigenous culture than other cities. Combined with the fact that it is also a culinary capital, the shareholders decided to launch Indigenous cuisine combining arts, culture and refined dining in the old capital after evaluating cities across the country.
A-Fa-Si (Wu Meifang), an Amis woman serving as the restaurant's art director, said that the government offers too few venues for Indigenous art exhibitions, so they had to start from the private sector. She hopes that through the artworks displayed in the restaurant's art gallery, Indigenous amateur creations will receive greater recognition. The restaurant's art gallery not only displays works by Taiwan's Indigenous peoples, but will also exhibit artistic creations by Indigenous peoples from abroad in the future.
