Why does the cockroach have the nickname "Xiaoqiang"?

Ever since Stephen Chow called the cockroach "Xiaoqiang" in a film, the cockroach became famous, and Xiaoqiang became a byword for the cockroach. But Stephen Chow didn't pick the name at random - the cockroach really does have its own extraordinary qualities. Let's take a look below at why the cockroach is called Xiaoqiang!

Why is the cockroach called Xiaoqiang?

1. Cockroaches have a history of hundreds of millions of years, while humans have only a few million years.

2. There are more than 3700 species of cockroaches. Omnivorous? NO! They will eat almost anything as long as it is organic matter.

3. Cockroaches can survive at least 10 minutes in a vacuum (not an absolute vacuum, such as in space).

4. Cockroaches can live under 40 kilowatts of X-rays, and humans? Please measure that in seconds. Cockroaches will die under X-rays of 10000 electron volts provided by a synchrotron, which is 1000 times the intensity of the former.

5. Cockroaches can live for 30 seconds in 12 molar hydrochloric acid and 18 molar sodium hydroxide.

6. Cockroaches can live underwater for at least 30 minutes.

7. Cockroaches can live for a long time inside a 100-degree oven.

8. To kill a cockroach with a traditional weapon, that is, a slipper, requires 29.4 newtons.

9. The speed at which cockroaches crawl is slightly slower than a human running, but this does not include their speed when climbing on vertical walls. In water, cockroaches move as if on flat ground, and cockroaches even have wings and can fly.

10. After a cockroach's head is cut off, the body and the head can each still live for 9 days, and the cause of death is excessive hunger.

11. A biologist once reached a conclusion based on the ecological habits of cockroaches: if one day a global nuclear war broke out on Earth, all living things within the affected area, including humans and even fish, would be wiped out, and only cockroaches would continue their lives. This is because the amount of radiation the human body can normally tolerate is 5 rems (a unit of radiation). Once the total radiation dose exceeds 800 rems, death is certain, while the German cockroach can tolerate 9000 to 105000 rems, and the American cockroach can reach 967500 rems! So even if there is a nuclear explosion, cockroaches can survive.

Those super-strong traits of cockroaches

1. There are more than five thousand species of cockroaches, and they are social animals.

2. Cockroaches will gnaw on infants' eyelashes.

3. Cockroaches can spread more than forty kinds of bacteria harmful to human health.

4. They possess immune memory and immune responses comparable to those of mammals.

5. Cockroaches like to drink alcohol.

6. All kinds of cooking oils are cockroaches' favorites.

7. Cockroaches are fond of eating starch and sugars.

8. Cockroaches cannot fly; they can only glide.

9. A cockroach can glide 21 meters in one minute, and can run 3 miles in 1 hour.

10. A male cockroach can mate many times in its life, but a female cockroach can mate only once in its life and then lay eggs for the rest of its life.

11. From 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. is the mating time for cockroaches.

12. When food is insufficient, cockroaches will kill each other, and they will share and eat the corpses of their companions.

13. Some cockroaches, when startled, can jump several meters.

14. When water and food are sufficient, cockroaches can survive for 90 days to 1 year.

15. Cockroaches eat everything, such as hair, dandruff, and the glue of glue-bound books.

16. Camphor oil has no obvious killing effect on cockroaches.

17. Cockroaches can remain unharmed when exposed to an environment twelve times the harmful dose for humans.

18. The living environment suitable for German cockroaches is similar to that of humans.

19. Cockroaches like to eat the feces and corpses of their own kind.

20. If an ordinary household finds one cockroach, the total number may exceed twenty thousand.
