Huawei, Xiaomi, and Lenovo: Three Mainland Chinese Phone Companies Among the Global Top Five
Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo: 3 Mainland Phone Companies Enter Global Top Five

(CNA Taipei) On the 15th, the American information technology research and consulting company Gartner released its global smartphone sales report for the third quarter of this year. Mainland China's Huawei, Xiaomi, and Lenovo occupied three of the world's top five smartphone manufacturers.
However, the three mainland Chinese phone manufacturers still have a considerable gap to close with the top two, Samsung and Apple.
Samsung ranked first in third-quarter sales with 73.21 million units, for a global market share of 24.4%; Apple ranked second with 38.18 million units, for a market share of 12.7%. Huawei, Xiaomi, and Lenovo each sold more than 15 million units in the third quarter, and their market shares all remained above 5%.
A report from Xinhua in San Francisco stated that Gartner's statistics show that Samsung and Apple's global market share in the third quarter of this year was 37%, down about seven percentage points from the same period last year. Huawei, Xiaomi, and Lenovo's market share was 15.5%, up 4.1 percentage points from the same period last year.
Samsung mainly lost market share in Western Europe and Asian countries, among which sales in the mainland China market fell 28.6%. The report said Xiaomi entered the ranks of the top five smartphone manufacturers for the first time. Driven by the domestic market in mainland China, Xiaomi's third-quarter sales this year grew very quickly, with a year-on-year increase of 336%.
Gartner analyzed that the strength of mainland Chinese manufacturers and mainland brands should not be underestimated, and they will continue to seek to expand into overseas emerging markets. In addition, mainland Chinese brand products have a high cost-performance ratio (C/P value), and they also have considerable strength to enter the high-end market. 1031216
