What are the differences between geese and ducks? A quick guide to telling these two types of poultry apart

Do you know what the differences between geese and ducks are? Although geese and ducks both belong to the order Anseriformes and are very common poultry, the two are very different. Below, the editors at Qiangnong Network will explain the differences between geese and ducks!
Goose
The goose is considered the first poultry species domesticated by humans, descended from the wild swan goose or greylag goose. Chinese geese come from the swan goose (Anser cygnoides), while European geese come from the greylag goose (Anser anser). Domestic geese are broadly divided into two systems, Chinese geese and European geese; European geese originated from the greylag goose, and Chinese geese were domesticated from the swan goose. Chinese geese originated in Northeast China and are recorded in the Erya; they were already being raised as far back as four thousand years ago, making them a very ancient goose breed.
Duck
Duck is the collective name for waterfowl of the subfamily Anatinae in the family Anatidae, order Anseriformes, also called true ducks. Ducks are relatively small in size with short necks; some genera have larger bills, and their legs are set far back on the body, giving them a waddling gait. Most true ducks (including several species incorrectly called geese because of their size and body shape) differ from swans and geese in the following characteristics: males molt twice a year, females lay more eggs per clutch, and the eggshells are smooth; the legs are covered with overlapping scales; and their calls show a certain degree of sexual dimorphism.
What are the differences between geese and ducks?
1. Appearance: Geese have an orange-yellow or dark brown fleshy knob on the forehead, a long neck, a flat and broad bill, high legs and a short tail, webbed toes, and white or gray feathers. Ducks have a flat bill and short legs, webbed toes, are good at swimming, and cannot fly high.
2. Body size: Geese are usually larger than ducks.
3. Calls: The calls of geese and ducks are roughly similar, but the harsh scolding of a goose is different from the cautiousness of a duck.
4. Boldness: Ducks are relatively afraid of people and will always give way and flee when a person approaches, but geese stand proudly.
5. Gait: Geese walk with a calm, dignified stride. Ducks walk with a hurried gait, looking nervous and uneasy.
