Eight Years in the Making: Hsinchu Biomedical Park Opens
The "Hsinchu Biomedical Incubation Center," one of the three major centers of the Hsinchu Biomedical Park under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, held its grand opening ceremony on December 16, representing our country's promotion of the biotechnology industry like living water, continuously injecting resources to nurture and incubate biomedical small and medium-sized enterprises with commercialization or business development potential; President Ma Ying-jeou and representatives of relevant ministries were also invited to jointly participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the "Hsinchu Biomedical Incubation Center" at 10 a.m., together with on-site guests and representatives from industry, government, academia and research sectors totaling approximately two hundred people, jointly witnessing this moment of significance for the development of the biomedical industry.
In order to strengthen our country's biotechnology industry capabilities, over the years the Executive Yuan has successively promulgated policies such as the "Program for Strengthening the Promotion of the Biotechnology Industry," the "Taiwan Biotechnology Take-off Diamond Action Plan," and the "Program for the Industrialization and Development of Agricultural Biotechnology," and has actively linked various industrial value chain development resources including biotechnology research and development, commercialization, talent, funding, regulations, incubation, and parks, which has driven the scale of Taiwan's biotechnology industry to grow year by year.
The Hsinchu Biomedical Park consists of three major core facilities: the "Park Hospital" established by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the "Biomedical Research and Development Center" established by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the "Hsinchu Biomedical Incubation Center" established by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Through the collaborative operation of the three major centers and the integration of upstream, midstream and downstream mechanisms to form a biomedical cluster, it aims to drive the scale of our country's biomedical industry; after the "Hsinchu Biomedical Incubation Center" begins operation, it will focus on the core fields of high-end medical devices and new drug research and development, and assist in cultivating manufacturers to link with medium and large enterprises, venture capital funds, international incubation networks and other accelerated incubation guidance resources, incubating biomedical small and medium-sized enterprises with commercialization or business development potential, promoting commercial matchmaking opportunities, and enhancing the development vitality of our country's biomedical industry.
The opening ceremony of the "Hsinchu Biomedical Incubation Center" adopted the theme "Biomedical Incubation. Endless Vitality," meaning that our country's promotion of the biomedical industry is like irrigating seedlings, continuously injecting living water resources to nurture and incubate biomedical small and medium-sized enterprises with commercialization or business development potential, so as to accelerate the development of the biomedical industry; the main guests invited to this ceremony included President Ma Ying-jeou, Ministry of Science and Technology Deputy Minister Chen Te-hsin, Ministry of Health and Welfare Deputy Minister Hsu Ming-neng, Hsinchu County Magistrate Chiu Ching-chun, Industrial Technology Research Institute Chairman Tsai Ching-yen, Metal Industries Research and Development Centre Chairman Huang Chi-chuan, Chinese Society for Cell Biology Honorary Chairman Lee Chung-hsi, and Chinese Business Incubation Association Chairman Huang Ching-yao, among others, with approximately two hundred people from domestic industry, government, academia and research sectors jointly participating.
In addition, the "Hsinchu Biomedical Incubation Center" ceremony arranged an international cooperation signing ceremony for the biomedical industry. Under the witness of Director Yeh Yun-lung of the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Director Shao Yao-hua of the Hsinchu Biomedical Industry and Incubation Center, resident manufacturer Jingkai Biotechnology Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement with Singapore-based Aenxi Technology Co., Ltd., and the eight high-quality potential manufacturers that have already moved in also displayed their niche products on site; even more specially, the ceremony also invited representatives of the benchmark biotechnology enterprise "Taiwan Liposome Company," which had graduated from the incubation program of the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration's Nangang Biotechnology Incubation Center, to attend the celebration on site, and to use this occasion to share experiences and exchange views with various high-quality potential biomedical manufacturers.
