The market price of white doves

The white dove is also known as the magic dove, or the American white dove, Japanese white dove, or Taiwan, China white dove. White doves first appeared in the Indian archipelago. They are small in size, look like pigeons, and have a gentle temperament, making them close to people. Only white doves can be used in magic after training, which is why they are also called magic doves.

The market price of white doves

White doves (magic doves) can be bought in many large cities in mainland China, such as large magic shops, large flower, bird, fish and insect markets, and so on, at a price of 100 yuan-300 yuan each. There are many reasons for this price difference. A high price does not necessarily mean a pure breed; in fact, there is no such thing as a pure breed to begin with. This is because their earliest origin was the Indian archipelago. The price of white doves (magic doves) in major cities in mainland China is generally higher in the north than in the south, and higher in coastal areas than inland areas.

Breeding methods for white doves

Like pigeons, white doves can breed all year round. After a male and a female mate, they normally lay 2 eggs each time, and occasionally only 1 egg. For artificial breeding, it is recommended to choose a cage 60 cm long, 40 cm wide and 40 cm high as the breeding cage, tie a small nest to the perch in the cage, and place some bedding material in the nest. The eggs will be laid within one week after the male and female mate. After the white dove lays the first egg, it lays the second egg within 48 hours. At this point, the male and female take turns incubating. Counting from the day the second egg is laid, after 16 days, the young dove breaks out of the shell. The male and female raise the young dove together, and after about 25-30 days, the young dove can eat on its own. The picture below was taken when the white dove was 30 days old. After hatching, white doves can reach sexual maturity at 5-7 months of age. For breeding, it is recommended to choose adult white doves over 7 months old.

Training methods for white doves

In stage magic involving turning doves, there is an effect like this: after the magician produces a dove, he throws the dove forward with force, throwing it out of his hand, and then the dove circles a small half-circle on the stage and returns to the magician's hand. This effect is called return dove. Regarding the training of return doves, all kinds of claims have circulated on the internet. Some say magnets are used, and others say a string is tied to the dove. These methods are all wrong.

Among the methods for training return doves, the more scientific and effective one is training through food guidance, using the dove's own conditioned reflexes to achieve the goal of the dove flying back to the hand. This method requires building mutual trust between the person and the dove, and can only be done by often playing with the dove to cultivate affection. In addition to training, there are also methods of achieving return doves without training. There is a method of semi-artificial feeding of magic doves that everyone can try, but the prerequisite is that you have breeding magic doves. From seven to ten days after the young bird hatches, take the young bird out, chew peanuts into a paste, and feed the young bird mouth to mouth, until the young bird can eat independently. Young birds raised by this method regard their owner as their parents and need no training at all.
