The pharmacological effects of Teucrium viscidum

1. Antibacterial effect: The ketone body of Shan Huoxiang has an obvious inhibitory effect on fungi such as Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans and Rhizopus nigricans, and also has a certain inhibitory effect on bacteria such as alpha-hemolytic streptococcus. The fresh juice of Shan Huoxiang leaves also has a certain inhibitory effect on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus albus and Bacillus subtilis.

2. Anti-inflammatory effect: The total saponins of Shan Huoxiang can inhibit carrageenan-induced paw swelling in rats, counteract histamine-induced increase in skin capillary permeability in mice, and excite adrenal cortical function. The warm infusion has a bactericidal effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Shigella in test tubes.

3. Hemostatic effect: Applying 1 g or 0.5 g of Shan Huoxiang pollen to the incisions of the carotid artery and femoral artery, liver, and skin and muscle cut surfaces of the hind limbs of rabbits significantly shortens the bleeding time, with an effect stronger than Yunnan Baiyao. Administering the alcohol extract at 5.4 g/kg to mice by gavage once daily for 5 consecutive days significantly shortens the tail-bleeding time and capillary coagulation time and reduces the amount of bleeding.

4. Antagonistic effect: The water extract of Shan Huoxiang significantly inhibits high-potassium-induced contraction of isolated guinea pig taenia coli, indicating that it has a calcium antagonistic effect. At 3×10-4 g/ml, the inhibition rate is 17%, and at 30×10-4 g/ml, the inhibition rate reaches 91%. The active ingredient is Shan Huoxiang alcohol, whose antagonistic parameter value for calcium antagonism is 5.95, and IC50 is 4.7×10-5 mol/L.
