Nowadays, whether people like growing flowers or not, it seems every home has a pothos or spider plant, because pothos and spider plants really do have very strong air-purifying ability, and their leaves are emerald green and glossy, truly full of life. They really are lovable.

Pothos and spider plants are very common indoor foliage plants, and growing them is very simple, but not everyone can grow them well. Many flower lovers' pothos and spider plants are sallow and skinny, not growing, or their leaves turn yellow and the tips dry out.

Today Blue Demon will teach you how to grow pothos and spider plants to be glossy green and bright.

The 2 major taboos of growing pothos and spider plants:

Pothos and spider plants are very easy to grow, but you must be careful not to commit these two taboos, otherwise pothos and spider plants will easily get yellow leaves and stop growing, and may even die.

1. Control the light

Pothos and spider plants are both indoor foliage plants and do not like direct sunlight. When growing them, you must not let them be exposed to the sun, especially in summer, when they must not be in direct sunlight, otherwise they will easily get sunburned and have yellow leaves.

You can place pothos and spider plants in a bright hall or by a windowsill. Receiving scattered light is enough, and you must not place pothos and spider plants in an overly dark and damp environment either, as that also easily causes problems.

2. Water properly

We often see many people growing pothos hydroponically, so some flower lovers think pothos likes water, and they water frequently when growing it, only to find that the pothos leaves gradually become soft and listless.

Although pothos likes water, it cannot tolerate waterlogging, and spider plants have fleshy roots, so they tolerate waterlogging even less.

So when watering, be sure to follow "water when dry, stop when wet," and never water randomly, which would cause root rot in pothos and spider plants.

Pothos and spider plants grow very quickly. If you find that your pothos or spider plant does not like to grow and is sallow and skinny, and the roots are fine, then it is most likely a nutrient deficiency caused by not fertilizing for a long time.

If you want pothos and spider plants to grow well, you can usually give them some of the wastewater from our homes.

Rice-washing water is something every household has. You can store it in a plastic bottle, leave it in the sun to ferment, and then add a little each time you water. After fermentation, rice-washing water is rich in nutrients, mainly nitrogen fertilizer, which is good for the growth of stems and leaves.

In addition, if you have expired beer or carbonated drinks at home, Blue Demon suggests you dilute them with water and then use them to spray the leaves of spider plants and pothos, which can make the leaves greener.

Of course, rice-washing water may have some odor, and beer and carbonated drinks are rather extravagant, so the simplest way is to apply a nitrogen fertilizer (urea) or a nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer once every 10 days or so, which can also let pothos and spider plants grow very well.
