Pharmacological Effects of Selaginella doederleinii
1. The alkaloids contained in Selaginella doederleinii have a fairly good inhibitory effect on mouse sarcoma S180. When a Selaginella doederleinii preparation was given by gavage to mice with experimental liver cancer for 12 consecutive days, although it had no inhibitory effect on the tumor, it could significantly prolong the survival days of the animals. After dissection it was found that the animals in the medication group had hypertrophy of the zona fasciculata of the adrenal cortex, while the tissues of the brain, heart, lung and kidney were normal.

The water extract of Selaginella doederleinii has an inhibitory effect on murine retrovirus reverse transcriptase and human DNA polymerase; the 50% inhibitory concentration (IC5O) for reverse transcriptase is 10 micrograms/ml, and the 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) for DNA polymerase is 9.0 micrograms/ml.
