Christmas cactus is a potted plant that flower lovers quite like, and many flower lovers are very fond of it. It blooms in winter and spring, with a large and abundant number of flowers, and a very long blooming period. But growing Christmas cactus has a problem that gives flower lovers a headache, namely root rot. If you are not careful, it rots, and flower lovers really get a headache just thinking about it. But today I am sharing a little method that lets flower lovers grow Christmas cactus so it blooms layer after layer, never rots, and looks stunning!

This method is grafting

But for grafting Christmas cactus there are many kinds of rootstock, such as cactus, dragon bone (Euphorbia), and ball cactus, and generally flower lovers choose to graft with cactus. But what Xiaohua is sharing today is grafting with Pereskia, first a few beautiful pictures for flower lovers to enjoy

Let us first talk about the benefits of grafting with Pereskia

1. Pereskia has no dormancy period. Even in the high temperatures of summer, you can still water when it is time to water and fertilize when it is time to fertilize, without affecting its growth, and it will grow very fast.

2. If grafting with Pereskia is unsuccessful, you can graft many times, and there is no time limit, and the place where your graft failed can repair itself very quickly

Let us now talk about its grafting method. It is suggested that flower lovers use the cleft grafting method, as this is the simplest method

First, split a cut in the selected Pereskia branch, with a depth of about 1 cm. Then select a thick and plump Christmas cactus leaf and use a small knife to cut it in one stroke until the white xylem is exposed.

Then insert the Christmas cactus leaf into the cut in the Pereskia, and fix it in place with a grafting clip. Note that tools and such all need to be sterilized, and both the rootstock and the scion must be selected as healthy and disease-free.

Note that after grafting is completed, the interface must not get wet. You can water the potting soil thoroughly and then place it in a cool, ventilated place for care. If after about 7 days the Christmas cactus leaf has not wilted and is still upright, then it means the grafting was successful, and new shoots will soon grow. At this time you can care for it normally, and it will grow very vigorously.

Care is as follows:

1. Fertilizing

Flower lovers can first estimate the depth of the Pereskia roots, use a wooden stick to make holes according to the depth, making 3--4 holes per pot. Put 2-3 grains of compound fertilizer into each hole. Cover the holes with soil.

Note: apply thin fertilizer frequently, once a month. For small flowers, use a little less compound fertilizer, and use a longer interval.

2. Light

Christmas cactus likes light, and sufficient sunlight is good for blooming. During the growing period, there must be sufficient light, especially in winter and spring. You can place it on an indoor windowsill or balcony and so on, so the plant will grow robustly and the flowers will be very vivid and gorgeous. When it is blooming, in order to extend the ornamental period of the flowers, you can place it in a cool place.

3. Watering

Pereskia does not like water very much. Finally, water once every 4-5 days. In the high temperatures of summer, you can spray water on its leaves to increase the air humidity so that it grows normally.
