Where is the goldenberry produced?

The goldenberry, whose scientific name is Physalis alkekengi, is also known as yangguniang, xiangguniang, xiangmaliu, jinguniang and so on. It is a perennial upright herbaceous plant of the genus Physalis in the Solanaceae family. It has a refreshing taste, and its fruit, the size of a longan, is wrapped in a thin, cicada-wing-like husk, resembling a delicate little lantern and also like a shy girl hiding in her boudoir. Now let us take a look at where the goldenberry is produced!

Where is the goldenberry produced?

The goldenberry originated in China, and wild resources are distributed in both the north and the south. It is mainly produced in Gansu, Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan, among other places. It has a long history of cultivation in China; records of Physalis alkekengi already appeared in the Erya in 300 BC. It is now widely grown in the Northeast region, while it is grown less in other regions, and it still counts as a rare and special vegetable.

The production environment of the goldenberry

The goldenberry is often cultivated as an annual. It is highly adaptable, tolerant of cold and heat, fond of cool and humid climates and of sunlight, and not choosy about soil. In particular, the goldenberry native to Asia can grow normally within a temperature range of 3 to 42°C. In northern China, there are commonly two types of goldenberry, wild and cultivated. The wild type's unripe fruit and the husk enclosing the fruit are mostly green, turning red when ripe; the cultivated type's unripe fruit and the husk enclosing the fruit are mostly green, turning yellow when ripe.

The cultivation value of the goldenberry

The goldenberry is an excellent product for prolonging life and beautifying the skin. It contains 18 kinds of amino acids and multiple vitamins needed by the human body, and has the effects of clearing heat, soothing the throat, resolving phlegm and promoting urination. Modern pharmacological research has found that the goldenberry also has the effects of lowering blood pressure and strengthening the heart, can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and can prevent and treat diabetes, tonsillitis, chronic bronchitis and many other conditions, and has a certain therapeutic effect on aplastic anemia. The goldenberry is one of the foods that people in both the north and the south enjoy tasting in their leisure time, and a small amount is exported. It landed in southern cities as early as four or five years ago, and there is also sales information online, but the response has not been great, not because it does not taste good, but because the public lacks awareness and recognition of the goldenberry. In other words, it is still at the level of consumption by a small range and a small group, and to promote it to a level known to all Chinese people, like Hami melons and ** grapes, there is still much work to be done.
