Lin Chia-lung promotes Taichung's international-class convention center: toward a "convention dual star" plan
When Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung attended the general meeting of the Taichung Chamber of Commerce and Industry on May 26, he stressed that the city government will certainly build an international-class convention center that meets local industry needs, and that Taichung will move toward "convention dual star" development in the future. The Taichung Wuri Convention Center will focus on international professional exhibitions, echoing the Shuinan Convention Center, and the two will be promoted in parallel.
Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung attended the first regular meeting of the second session of the first Taichung Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he shared with business leaders many of the city government's current economic and industrial policy plans. He said that in order to establish an international-class convention center that meets local industry needs, Taichung will move toward "convention dual star" development. The Taichung Wuri Convention Center will focus on international professional exhibitions, echoing the Shuinan Convention Center, and the two will be promoted in parallel.
Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung also stressed that the Shuinan Convention Center will be executed according to the budget approved by the former Taichung City Council, and will be positioned mainly for international conferences and consumer exhibitions.
At this general meeting event, Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung also reiterated the importance of "Greater Taichung 123" to Taichung's development. Its core spirit is "one mountain-hand line, two international ports, three major sub-centers," which can map out the most beautiful future for Greater Taichung, resolve the current crisis of marginalization in the county areas, and further combine with the prosperous development of the urban districts.
He pointed out that the Taichung railway has the characteristics of a mountain line and a sea line, but because transportation has been managed separately, only comprehensive integration can open up the governing and conception vessels and allow normal operation, and only then can it further promote economic development. Therefore, on the one hand, the city government is promoting the "three rings and three links" road network, connecting the highway system, MRT, light rail, and optimized bus lanes and other public transportation systems, while also linking the mountain, sea, and Fengyuan areas, which will make travel across the entire city more smooth.
Regarding the development of Taichung's two ports, Mayor Lin stressed that the Port of Taichung is the largest in Taiwan, China, and is also the reliance for the entry and exit of industries in central Taiwan. In the future, a two-port economic free city will be planned, fully achieving "city-port cooperation" and reaching the goal of "passengers entering from Taichung and goods exiting from Taichung," in order to drive a leap in the Greater Taichung economy.
Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung said that the policy planning for the three major sub-centers includes the "Waterfront Flower Capital Area" centered on Fengyuan, Houli, and the mountain city area; the "Two Ports Economic and Trade Area" with Shalu, Qingshui, and Wuqi as its heart; and the "High Speed Rail Development Area" linking Wuri to Changhua for the development of logistics and conventions. Together they will comprehensively create a co-prosperous living circle for the mountain, sea, and Fengyuan areas.
