New opportunities for Taiwan-New Zealand economic cooperation, New Taipei biotech industry business opportunities extend toward the Southern Hemisphere

New Taipei City, seeing the advantages of the Taiwan-New Zealand Economic Cooperation Agreement (ANZTEC), immediately extended the development of New Taipei City's biotech industry to the Southern Hemisphere to vigorously expand business opportunities. Eight New Zealand health and biotech manufacturers formed a delegation to visit Taiwan and held a Taiwan-New Zealand business opportunity and technology exchange matchmaking meeting at the New Taipei City Government. Fifteen New Taipei biotech manufacturers participated, negotiating cooperation mechanisms for Taiwan agents, distributors, OEM, raw material suppliers, etc., with the first wave of cooperation estimated to create 30 million in business opportunities.

Yeh Hui-ching, Director-General of the Economic Development Department of New Taipei City, said that since Taiwan and New Zealand signed the Taiwan-New Zealand Economic Cooperation Agreement (ANZTEC) in 2013, tariffs on many raw materials and items have been gradually reduced, with some even enjoying zero-tariff treatment. This not only symbolizes our country's policy goals of integrating into regional integration, connecting with Asia-Pacific, and laying out globally, but also substantively promotes Taiwan-New Zealand bilateral industrial cooperation, investment and other economic exchanges. The city is optimistic about New Zealand's advantages in the agricultural biotech industry. Since July 22 last year, witnessed by Taipei Mayor Chu Li-lun and New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office Deputy Representative Serena Chui, the New Taipei City Biotech Industry Development Alliance and the New Zealand biotech association NZBIO signed a friendly agreement to jointly establish bilateral industrial cooperation mechanisms and platforms, strengthening exchanges for industrial innovation and upgrading.

In this business matchmaking and exchange event, a number of biotech-related goods are eligible for tariff concessions. The New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office invited eight manufacturers of honey, dairy products, health foods, etc. to visit Taiwan, combining resources from the New Taipei Biotech Alliance, the Biotech Center, and the Biomedical Promotion Group to jointly organize a Taiwan investment environment experience sharing session, a Taiwan-New Zealand industrial cooperation seminar, a Taiwan-New Zealand business opportunity matchmaking meeting, channel visits and other activities over a five-day visit.

Among them, the honey products brought by New Zealand manufacturer Manawa Honey NZ use Manuka Honey as a raw material, a traditional material used by New Zealand's indigenous people. In addition to the antibacterial properties of ordinary honey, it is also used to maintain health and aid digestion.
