Toy pumpkin

Toy pumpkins are annual vining herbaceous plants.

Their flowers are monoecious, solitary and yellow, and the fruit is pear-shaped, disc-shaped, gourd-shaped, crown-shaped or round, in colors such as white, yellow and green.

Basic information

[Name] Toy pumpkin; Pumpkin

[Scientific name] Cucurbita Pepo

[Family] Cucurbitaceae Introduction

[Place of origin] Mexico and nearby areas of the Americas

[Uses] Ornamental fruit for play; floral display material, etc.

[Characteristics] An annual climbing vine. Monoecious, with diverse, small and unusual fruit shapes and various markings, very attractive.

It can be used for ornament and as an accompaniment in display floral art. The climbing vines can also be used for courtyard shade arbors and similar purposes.

[Cultivation points] Suitable germination temperature: 20-30°C, suitable growing temperature: 15-30°C; sowing period: spring to summer; flowering period: July to September

[Seedling cultivation] The same as growing ordinary pumpkins: choose a spot with good sunlight, sow 3-4 seeds per hole, and cover with about 2 cm of soil.

Plant spacing 30 cm, or transplant elsewhere when there are 3-4 true leaves.

Use compost and compound fertilizer as base fertilizer, and apply topdressing 2-3 times during the growing period, slightly increasing phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to help flowering and fruiting.

If artificial pollination can be used during the flowering period, the yield will be even better.

Precautions

1. Please store the seeds in a cool, dry place.

2. No economic liability beyond the price of the seeds is accepted for losses caused by climatic conditions or improper cultivation techniques.

3. The thickness of soil covering the seed surface is 2-3 times the seed diameter.

4. This variety has a complex genetic makeup and cannot be saved for further planting.

Main habits

Annual vining herbaceous plant. Flowers are monoecious, solitary and yellow, and the fruit is pear-shaped, disc-shaped, gourd-shaped, crown-shaped or round, in colors such as white, yellow and green.

Sow from March to June in spring, 1-2 seeds per hole with the pointed end down, and cover with soil fairly thickly, about nearly 2 cm.

It is not cold-tolerant and prefers fertile, moist soil with good drainage.

The fruit is brightly colored and suitable for indoor display on a table.

This type is a mixed pack and is for ornament only, not for eating, with a long ornamental period.
