Industry-Government-Academia Symposium on Joint Prosperity of Port and City Economy - From the Development of the South Free Trade Zone and North Tourism Zone at Anping Port, Creating Joint Prosperity of Port and City Economy in the Greater Tainan Area

(Taiwan TB News Network / Reporter Chen Nien-tsu) The Tainan City Government and Taiwan International Ports Corporation held the "Industry-Government-Academia Symposium on Joint Prosperity of Port and City Economy" on June 16, hoping to pool everyone's wisdom and efforts to provide suggestions for the future development of Anping Port. At the meeting, cooperation contracts were signed with four companies including Tong Jiun Dynamic Power Co., Ltd., Anping Port Logistics Co., Ltd., Ju Zheng Hang Co., Ltd., and Yu Hang International Co., Ltd., while a letter of intent for cooperation was also signed with Li Hsing Travel Service Co., Ltd.

Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te stated in his address at the "Industry-Government-Academia Symposium on Joint Prosperity of Port and City Economy" that he had always called Anping Port "Pearl Harbor," as precious as a pearl. Because it was Taiwan's main port for external trade in the 16th and 17th centuries, and also a major transportation hub from Southeast Asia to Northeast Asia, it was by no means coincidental that it could become a transportation crossroads or a historic gateway; it must have its own unique characteristics.

Furthermore, after the merger of the county and city, Greater Tainan has been thriving through the joint efforts of all sectors. However, if shipping could lend its support during the development process, it would further boost the momentum of development and drive Tainan's progress and prosperity. Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te also emphasized that in the future, the Tainan City Government will fully assist Taiwan International Ports Corporation in attracting investment, and with everyone's joint efforts, together realize the vision of joint prosperity of port and city, allowing Anping Port's development to set sail as soon as possible.

In order to enhance the port functions and industrial competitiveness of Anping Port and drive the overall prosperity and development of Greater Tainan, the Tainan City Government and Taiwan International Ports Corporation, following Taiwan International Ports Corporation's official opening for business as a free trade port zone on August 6 last year, have continued to promote the "North Tourism, South Free Trade" business opportunities of Anping Port. Taiwan International Ports Corporation Chairman Chang Chih-ching stated in his address: "From the development positioning of Anping Commercial Port, promote links and joint prosperity with local industries; and deepen the cooperative relationship with the city government, exploring innovative development models for port-city cooperation." With both sides looking forward to the vision of joint prosperity of port and city, the event concluded successfully.

The Anping session of the "Industry-Government-Academia Symposium on Joint Prosperity of Port and City Economy" was moderated by Taiwan International Ports Corporation Chairman Chang Chih-ching. The panelists included Taiwan International Ports Corporation President Li Tai-hsing, Tainan City Government Economic Development Bureau Deputy Director-General Yin Shih-hsi, Customs Administration Kaohsiung Customs Director Hsieh Lien-chi, Star Cruises Taiwan Branch General Manager Lu Kuan-chun, British-owned Kuoni Travel Service Co., Ltd. Taiwan Branch Marketing Director Hsu Ching-chi, Tainan University of Technology Professor Hsiung Cheng-i, Chang Jung Christian University Professor Chen Chun-yi, and Anping Industrial Zone Chairman Liu Hsien-mo. They exchanged views with industry-government-academia experts on the theme "Discussing Tainan's Port-City Development from the Perspective of Anping Port's 'North Tourism, South Free Trade,'" jointly exploring new opportunities for future port-city cooperation at Anping Port. The discussion atmosphere on site was lively.

The experts and scholars gathered at the "Industry-Government-Academia Symposium on Joint Prosperity of Port and City Economy" are all outstanding leaders in their respective fields with very rich practical and cooperative promotion experience. They analyzed the opportunities for cooperation between Anping Port and Tainan City from a practical implementation perspective, discussing item by item topics ranging from the provision of a more sustainable operating environment for shipping and logistics operators after the establishment of the free trade port zone at Anping Port, to the planning and establishment of a waterfront tourism and recreation area in the northern tourism zone, and responding to international trends of berthing large international cruise ships. Through open dialogue, they exchanged views with the audience on site, welcoming everyone to participate and make good use of Anping Port to strengthen corporate competitiveness and prosper Greater Tainan.
