How Do You Propagate Succulents from Leaves and Cuttings? A Beginner's Propagation Tutorial

Growing succulents doesn't have to cost much. You can ask your friends or neighbors if you can get a few leaves from their favorite succulents, or you can buy some small leaves from your favorite nursery. After that, you can grow succulents from cuttings!
First, cut a few leaves from your favorite succulent. Of course, you can also use stems; remove the leaves at the bottom so that you are left with at least about 2.5cm of stem.
Before planting, you can first place the cut leaves on a paper towel and leave them in a spot without light for 4-5 days. This is because succulent cuttings need to "callus over" first, otherwise they will rot.
Next, fill your pot with well-draining potting soil. Do not use ordinary potting soil, because this kind of soil retains too much moisture and may eventually cause the succulent to rot.
Then you can start planting your succulent leaves, letting the soil cover the lower half of the leaves, or you can simply lay your leaves flat on the surface of the soil. Both ways work.
Your newly planted succulent leaves need to be watered regularly until they begin to root. However, do not overwater them either. You can water them with a spray bottle when you see the top of the soil is dry.
After planting, your succulents will begin to root and grow new leaves within 6-7 weeks.
Note: It is best to plant more of them, because not all succulent leaves may grow new roots.
