The Tainan City Government and the Monte Jade Science and Technology Association held the "2015 Global Green Energy Business Opportunities and Trends" seminar on the afternoon of August 14 in the International Conference Hall of the Tainan Living Aesthetics Cultural Center. Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te not only hoped that the Monte Jade Science and Technology Association would cooperate with Tainan businesses to promote industrial upgrading, but also welcomed Gogoro to invest in Tainan to jointly build a technological, low-carbon city. The aim is to combine the strengths of industry, government, academia and research to jointly create a low-carbon, green-energy, happy Greater Tainan.

Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te said that many people may know that Tainan is Taiwan's first city and also Taiwan's cultural capital, but few people know that Tainan is in fact also a low-carbon city. Mayor Lai believes that Tainan has ancient culture and should also have new civilization; only in this way can Tainan gradually move forward between the old and the new. Mayor Lai stressed that making Tainan a low-carbon, sustainable new technology city has always been the goal of the city government's efforts. Tainan City was selected in 2011 as the only low-carbon demonstration city in southern Taiwan, and in 2012 launched the "Tainan Low-Carbon Year" and established the "Low-Carbon City Project Office" to declare its determination to become a low-carbon city. In December of the same year, it became the first in the country to promulgate and implement the "Tainan City Low-Carbon City Self-Governance Ordinance," putting the promotion of low-carbon city projects into practice.

In addition, Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te believes that everyone should promote low-carbon green energy in response to climate change and fulfill their responsibility as part of the global village, and that this can in fact also reduce PM2.5 (PM2.5 refers to particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 micrometers or less in the atmosphere, also known as respirable particulate matter.). PM2.5 is so small that it can be inhaled directly through the nostrils and then invade the blood vessels; this is truly a terrifying thing. Mayor Lai said that among the situations that produce PM2.5, the largest source is the exhaust gas emitted by motorcycles, so if the government can combine the power of the private sector to convert all of Taiwan's motorcycles into electric motorcycles, especially since Deputy Minister Shen just explained that Taiwan has many conditions in this regard, because this is an effective way to reduce PM2.5, not only can all citizens benefit, but it can also drive the development of the green energy industry. It is believed that by striving toward this goal, the business opportunities in Taiwan's low-carbon green energy industry will certainly get better and better.

Shen Jong-chin, Deputy Minister of the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, said that due to global climate change, countries around the world are working toward sustainable energy, new energy technology, renewable energy, and energy conservation and carbon reduction. To promote the development of green energy, the Executive Yuan has also proposed a green energy leap-forward plan and selected several industries such as solar photovoltaics, wind power, and LED lighting, hoping to drive the development of green energy as a whole. In addition, Deputy Minister Shen was very grateful to the Tainan City Government and the Taiwan Monte Jade Science and Technology Association for holding this "2015 Global Green Energy Business Opportunities and Trends" seminar, enabling the green energy industry through the seminar to further understand new industry information and jointly strive forward for the new green energy industry.

The 2015 Global Green Energy Business Opportunities and Trends Seminar invited Gogoro Inc., the Industrial Technology Research Institute, and the Taiwan Smart Grid Industry Association to give speeches on topics including "The Development and Potential Business Opportunities of Mobile Power," "Development Trends and Business Opportunities of Hydrogen Fuel Cells," and "Outlook for the Smart Grid Industry," sharing green energy business opportunities, the current state of international green energy applications, and corporate innovation experience with industry players, so that manufacturers and businesses in Tainan City can grasp the latest domestic and overseas trends, drive new thinking in industries within the jurisdiction, and further enhance the international competitiveness of industry.

In addition to Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te, the distinguished guests attending that day included Shen Jong-chin, Deputy Minister of the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs; Wang Po-yuan, Chairman of the Monte Jade Science and Technology Association; Li Chung-hsi, Honorary Chairman; Wu Chun-yi, Chairman of the Ta Yih Industrial Group; Yen Ming-yi, Chairman of the Southern Taiwan Chapter; Peng Ming-yi, Vice President of Gogoro Inc.; and Fang Chin-cheng, Director-General of the city government's Economic Development Bureau.

The Tainan City Economic Development Bureau said that in the future it will continue to promote various industrial policies, including promoting industrial cluster alliances, the green energy sub-group of the Tainan Small and Medium Enterprise Service Team, handling local SBIR, and the Solar City Project, encouraging the matching of green energy product applications, introducing green energy technology, expanding to the entire industry and opening the door to green energy business opportunities, moving toward a more prosperous low-carbon technology new city.
