Keep this flower at home in summer and the temperature drops 10°C right away, so cool you won't want to go out
Areca palm
Areca palm is also called yellow palm. It is fairly shade-tolerant, and kept indoors it can absorb xylene and formaldehyde. Its leaves are as dense as phoenix tail feathers. One pot at home brings both a tropical feel and the sense of a forest~
Areca palm propagation:
Besides buying one at the flower market, areca palm can also be grown from seed and by division. Areca palm seeds are relatively hard to get and are generally imported from abroad; division is mostly done in spring. If your areca palm is well grown, you can divide out several pots every year!
Areca palm care:
Areca palm suits indoor bright indirect light. Leaf mold mixed with garden soil is enough to plant it, but it must be breathable. Like ordinary green plants, when it has a problem it shows on the leaves:
1. If you find the leaves yellow and withered, first judge whether it is sunburn and move it to a shady spot;
2. If the leaves are yellow and soft, it may be overwatering, so control the water and prune off the rotten leaves;
3. If yellow spots or large areas of yellow leaves appear, it may be a lack of nitrogen and potassium fertilizer. You can water with urea, magnesium sulfate, etc., or mix some dried banana peel into the pot as fertilizer.
Snake plant
Many flower lovers grow snake plants. It is a shade-tolerant summer-growing type, grows faster and better in summer, and also absorbs formaldehyde. Besides the living room, it can also be kept in the bathroom, hallway, and bedroom!
Snake plant propagation:
Besides what we mentioned before: cutting snake plant leaves into 6-10 cm small sections for rooting by cuttings, you can also just throw the leaves into water and put them in a shady spot, and they root in a week. Every spring you can also divide them. The snake plant's propagation ability is super strong.
Snake plant care:
Snake plant care is relatively simple and its soil requirements are not high, but if you want to speed up its growth, pay attention to the following points:
1. Don't water too frequently, better dry than wet, and never let water accumulate in the pot;
2. Snake plant doesn't need much fertilizer, watering once a month with fermented soybean cake fertilizer water is enough;
3. If the snake plant leaves are not upright and are limp, it may be insufficient light. Move it to bright indirect light. Giving proper indirect light in summer can even make it bloom!
Schefflera
Schefflera is also called umbrella tree and lucky tree. Its leaves are dense and emerald green, keeping it at home is clean and refreshing, and it can also absorb secondhand smoke. Flower lovers with smokers at home should hurry and keep a pot~
Schefflera propagation:
Schefflera can be grown from seed or by cuttings. Huahua recommends water cuttings, because it grows slowly and soil cuttings easily rot. For water cuttings, change the water once a week, and as long as the branch doesn't die, it will root.
Schefflera care:
Schefflera fears waterlogging, so it is best to plant it in sandy soil mixed with garden soil, or add some clay pebbles at the bottom and on the surface of the pot for breathability. During care, flower lovers should pay attention to the following points:
1. Drought-tolerant, in summer it is best to water once every 3-5 days, and when hot, spray the surrounding air to cool and moisturize;
2. Avoid direct sun exposure, schefflera suits mild bright indirect light;
3. Do not apply heavy fertilizer, schefflera only needs repotting once every 1-2 years, and fertilizing instead harms its growth.
Peperomia
Peperomia is suitable for placing on a coffee table or display cabinet, and putting it next to a TV or computer can also protect the eyes. Its leaves are thick and shiny, and it not only adds a touch of green to the home but also increases humidity, making it very suitable for summer.
Peperomia propagation:
Peperomia can be grown by soil cuttings or water cuttings, and water cuttings are most suitable in the hot season. Cut a branch 5-10 cm long, preferably a top branch, put it in water and it roots in about a week. After rooting, change the water once and soak it for another week before transplanting it into soil.
Peperomia care:
Peperomia suits sandy soil, and daily care is also simple. As long as you do these 3 points, you can grow plump peperomia:
1. Put it in a bright indoor spot, avoid direct sunlight, so the leaves stay green and don't get spots;
2. Water appropriately, once a day in summer is enough. When the temperature is high you can spray the surrounding air to cool it. It is not suitable to spray too much water on the leaf surface, as it easily rots;
3. Peperomia is beautiful as a low compact plant. When the leggy branches get too long, flower lovers can pinch the tops according to personal preference, and the cut branches can be re-rooted by cuttings~
Monstera
Monstera is also a common tropical flower, and it is shade-tolerant, very suitable for the home and office. An air-conditioned room is rather stuffy, and keeping it is just perfect~
Monstera propagation:
Monstera can be divided in spring, or propagated by cutting branches. Although one branch can only be cut once, after success it will burst into a pot of small seedlings. During cutting, be sure to put it in a shady spot, avoid sun exposure, and water and spray daily to keep it moist.
Monstera care:
Monstera care is not hard either. Once you figure it out, growing it for decades is no problem:
1. Monstera cannot be exposed to direct sunlight, nor can it be kept in too dark a place for a long time. Mild light indoors is best;
2. Because it is kept indoors, watering need not be too frequent. In summer water once every 1-2 days, and if the indoor air is dry you can spray water around the leaves to moisturize;
3. Monstera likes fertilizer. Usually you can add compound fertilizer, and when repotting add worm castings as a base fertilizer. Only with sufficient fertility will the leaves be green and large!
Bowl lotus
Summer of course cannot lack lotus. Without a pond or a yard, you can grow bowl lotus in just one pot, and within a month you can enjoy lotus at home!
Bowl lotus propagation:
Bowl lotus seeds need a little of the top peeled open, so they sprout faster. Soak them in water and they sprout in a few days, and in a week they grow a little tail. Once they grow to 10 cm long, add yellow mud and bury the seeds, and after it settles it is clean and tidy!
Bowl lotus care:
Growing bowl lotus is not hard. Do the following points during the process and you are guaranteed to grow incredibly fragrant lotus flowers:
1. Plenty of sunlight, best grown in a yard or on a south balcony, with direct sunlight being best, so it can bloom quickly;
2. When planting the sprouts you can mix some compound fertilizer into the soil, and if leaves turn yellow later you can add some ferrous sulfate and monopotassium phosphate solution;
3. As for the problem of pests, keeping it ventilated can avoid breeding mosquitoes, and you can also put a few heat-tolerant betta fish in the water, which can eat the insect eggs in the water.
