2015 Taipei International Invention Show & Technomart opens, creative inventions draw the eye
To promote technical exchange and cooperation between academia and industry, the Ministry of Science and Technology, at the "2015 Taipei International Invention Show & Technomart - Science and Technology Pavilion" (the Science and Technology Pavilion for short) held from October 1 (Thursday) to the 3rd (Saturday) at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1, adopted "The Power of Multiplication" as its exhibition theme, planned a themed experience area, and created living scenarios such as streets and homes, letting the public experience the changes that new technology brings to daily life. At 12:30 pm on the first day of the exhibition, Ministry of Science and Technology Political Deputy Minister Lin Yi-ping will attend the opening and signing witness ceremony. Technical presentation events are scheduled on the hour every day. Manufacturers and the public are welcome to enter and visit for free!
This year the Science and Technology Pavilion uses "The Power of Multiplication" to convey the Ministry of Science and Technology's support for technology research and development by academic and research institutions, extending it to industry and moving toward a consistent direction of academic research and industrial development, using this multiplying power to lead Taiwan toward a more tangible smart life. Another feature of this pavilion is that it is divided into zones by trend themes: the four major trends of "urbanization," "aging," "industrialization" and "climate change." Thirty academic and research institutions from across Taiwan are invited to exhibit 120 technologies and inventions closely tied to international development and life applications.
Among them is the "Diaper Detection and Prediction System" presented by China University of Science and Technology, which, in an aging Taiwan, can assist caregiving work and improve care quality. This technology (Goo9) works by installing a wireless sensing and communication module to collect changes in temperature and humidity of the diaper patch, providing functions including urine moisture detection and reminders, assisting long-term care personnel in carrying out routine work, and supporting one-to-many diaper monitoring scenarios, matching the setup of today's care institutions. At present, four nursing homes have cooperated to install large-scale monitoring systems, and mass production is being discussed with industry operators.
In addition, National Chiao Tung University will exhibit "Advanced Driver Assistance Technology," which uses camera imagery for detection and analysis, such as lane departure warnings, vehicle detection, pedestrian and motorcycle detection, and driving behavior analysis, enhancing active safety for people and vehicles. The Intelligent Vision System Industry-Academia Alliance (iVSIAC) has already provided the industry with a professional and forward-looking technical backing in the vision field. To date it has conducted technical exchanges with nearly 80 manufacturers, and last year it had substantive technology transfers and industry-academia cooperation with 11 companies.
Recently, some bars or restaurants, in order to attract consumers, offer dining customers dart-throwing games, which are deeply loved by office workers who find them fun and stress-relieving. This year, Knight Visual Technology Co., Ltd., mentored under the Ministry of Science and Technology's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incentive Program, will exhibit an IoT smart dartboard, the world's first interactive steel-tip dartboard. It captures images through a camera and then uses computer vision to locate the darts and keep score, allowing traditional steel-tip darts to compete and interact with other players through the Internet of Things. Moreover, the global output value of electronic darts reached 250 million US dollars in 2014, showing the follow-up development potential and market.
In order to effectively spread academic research results and enhance the competitiveness of our country's industries, the Ministry of Science and Technology continues to promote general industry-academia cooperation and innovative industry-academia cooperation programs. As of the end of August of the 104th year of the Republic of China, the general industry-academia cooperation program had approved a cumulative total of 510 cases, a cumulative total of 530 cooperating manufacturers, and approved funding of NT$1.007 billion (Ministry of Science and Technology subsidy of NT$731 million, cooperating manufacturer matching funds of NT$276 million), with a cumulative total of 1,423 master's and doctoral personnel participating in the programs and a cumulative total of 908 personnel dispatched by cooperating manufacturers.
In addition, the industry-academia small alliance cooperation program approved a cumulative total of 106 cases in the 104th year of the Republic of China, from cultural cuisine to the Internet of Things, from the gaming industry to automotive technology, from intelligent robots to automation, from medical materials and cosmeceuticals to the cloud, expanding assistance for the needs of industrial technology upgrading; in the 104th year of the Republic of China, the industry-academia large alliance has so far received approval for subsidies for 4 programs, with 3 programs still under review, and the participating cooperating manufacturers are all key benchmark players in that industry domestically.
Under the Ministry of Science and Technology's active promotion of various industry-academia linkage measures, as of the end of August of the 104th year of the Republic of China, the signed amount for technology transfer of research and development results had reached NT$270.37 million, growing about 40% compared with the same period last year, a fruitful result. The Science and Technology Pavilion is scheduled to hold the signing witness and opening launch ceremony at 1 pm on October 1 (Thursday). During the three-day exhibition, 21 technical presentation events will be held. For more exciting technical content, you can visit the official website (www.most.org.tw) to preview the exhibits in advance. Manufacturers and the public are welcome to visit and offer guidance at the Science and Technology Pavilion during the exhibition!
