Taichung City Daya Wheat Culture Festival: A Real-Life Experience of Wheat Industry Culture
The "Wheat Country Fun Festival," part of the Taichung City Daya District Wheat Industry Culture Festival, will be held on March 5 at 9:00 AM at the square in front of Daya Baoxing Temple. In addition to wonderful performances and sales of agricultural products, the wheat fields will also feature a Journey to the West Five Finger Pass installation art, imitating a Monopoly-style real-life experience game. Those who successfully pass all 5 levels can receive a board game set, allowing the public to experience wheat industry culture through play.
The Taichung City Agriculture Bureau stated that Daya District began cultivating wheat during the Japanese colonial period. The main wheat variety currently planted is "Taichung Selection No. 2," with a planting area of about 80 hectares. Its main purpose is to supply wheat cultivation seeds for the Kinmen area. The renowned Kinmen Red Label Kaoliang liquor is its product.
Every year from November 15 to November 30, before the second rice crop is harvested, Daya wheat farmers plant wheat by broadcasting seeds without tilling the soil. This labor-saving wheat cultivation method is a special cultivation method developed by local farmers and was once recognized during an agricultural experience presentation competition.
The Taichung City Agriculture Bureau stated that on the day of the March 5 event, there will also be farmland painting in the cosmos flower fields. Everyone is welcome to come and take photos and enjoy the golden waves of wheat.
