Infrastructure for Taichung Sugar Factory section rezoning completed, Mayor Lin Chia-lung: will spur vigorous development

The infrastructure for the 22.25-hectare section rezoning of the Taichung Sugar Factory in East District, Taichung City was completed on the 2nd. Mayor Lin Chia-lung stated that in the future it will combine ecology, culture and commerce to become the "Pearl of the East District." According to the Land Administration Bureau's plan, the section rezoning includes 13.37 hectares of public facilities (including a 6.09-hectare ecological pond, the 2.23-hectare Jianguo Market, roads, etc.) and 8.88 hectares of commercial land; after the newly built Jianguo Market opens in September this year, combined with the elevated railway, every effort will be made to attract enterprises to invest in a commercial center here and spur the vigorous development of the cultural and creative industries and businesses in East District, Gancheng and the train station area.

Mayor Lin Chia-lung stated that over the past 20-plus years this block was regarded as an obstacle to local development. Now that the infrastructure development for the section rezoning has been completed, the park will contain an ecological pond, the old sugar factory business office will be transformed into a story museum, and together with the relocated Jianguo Market and the commercial center, the city will jointly attract investment with Taiwan Sugar Corporation to create a park combining ecological, cultural and commercial functions, attracting good investment to drive local development and promote the regeneration of East District.

A 6.09-hectare ecological pond and 12 precious old trees in the park have also been fully preserved by the city government. Mayor Lin Chia-lung particularly emphasized that this will fully take ecological conservation into account. Regarding investment returns, the mayor believes that the Taichung Sugar Factory section rezoning is adjacent to the train station, the Gancheng bus transfer station and Taichung Park, and he is confident it can attract enterprises to set up business offices, make leisure and entertainment investments and open shopping centers, with an estimated benefit of more than 10 billion.

Zheng Meihua, deputy manager of Taiwan Sugar Corporation's Central Changhua District Office, stated that Taiwan Sugar has already contacted many investors, most of whom are interested in this block, and Taiwan Sugar will accommodate investors' needs and develop it in phases and zones, allowing the glory of East District to reappear.
