Six effective tricks for increasing potato yield

Remove the tail buds. Experimental observation has proven that when tail buds of potatoes grow into plants, the yield is only 1/3 of that from plants grown from top buds or side buds. For this reason, when cutting seed potatoes, the tail buds should be discarded and not used.

High-ridge cultivation. High-ridge cultivation with soil mounded on both sides can increase the loose soil in the active soil layer around the root and stem zone, raise soil temperature, and meet the temperature needed for early root and stem development.

Remove flower buds. The usable part of the potato is the underground tuber, and it does not need to flower and be pollinated to produce it. To obtain high yield, buds must be pinched off as soon as they appear, so as to save nutrients and promote tuber growth.

Less hoeing, more direct row cultivation. The fleshy roots of potatoes that can form tubers grow horizontally in the soil. Deep hoeing often cuts the fleshy extended roots, artificially causing reduced yield. Therefore, after the first hoeing, only cultivate between rows without hoeing again, which can effectively increase yield.

Supplement magnesium to boost production. Expert research has proven that during the growth of potatoes, especially during the tuber bulking stage, if magnesium fertilizer is sufficient, not only is the yield high, but starch accumulation is also greater and quality is better. Therefore, when the plants are 45 cm tall, apply 50-100 grams of magnesium sulfate per plant after dissolving it in water.

Foliar spraying. Under the condition of applying sufficient base fertilizer, starting from leaf expansion, spray the leaves once every 10 days with a mixture of 0.1% magnesium sulfate, 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate, and 1000-fold triacontanol, spraying 3-5 times in succession, which can significantly increase yield.
