Yunlin County ranks first nationwide in the number of fishing boats insured

To protect the property safety of fishermen in the county and encourage active insurance participation, the Yunlin County Government, in conjunction with the Fisheries Agency's policy of rewarding owners of powered fishing boats for insuring their vessels, has proactively added extra subsidies to benefit fishermen. Currently, the number of insured fishing boats in Yunlin County ranks first nationwide.

Magistrate Lee Chin-yung stated that, considering that fishing boats are fishermen's tools for earning a living and their property, and in order to protect fishermen's property safety and ensure stable operation of fishing boats, the Yunlin County Government has cooperated with the Fisheries Agency's program of rewarding owners of powered fishing boats for insuring their vessels.

To increase the insurance participation rate, subsidies are provided for fishing boats under 100 tons, with an additional 20% subsidy on premiums. Apart from fishing rafts and sampans, which do not receive the additional subsidy, the rest are subsidized according to fishing boat tonnage. In addition to subsidies from the Fisheries Agency ranging from 6,000 yuan to 8,000 yuan, the county government's additional subsidy can reach as high as 10,000 yuan to 60,000 yuan. Starting from 2013, 414 vessels were insured; in 2014, the number reached 910; in 2015, 700 vessels. The number of insured vessels ranks first nationwide.

For boats under 50 tons, the Fisheries Agency subsidizes 6,000 yuan, and the county government's additional subsidy can reach up to 10,000 yuan; for fishing boats with a gross tonnage of 50 tons or more but under 100 tons, the Fisheries Agency subsidizes 8,000 yuan, and the county government's additional subsidy can reach up to 60,000 yuan. According to statistics from the Yunlin County Government, all 7 fishing boats that had accidents and made claims from 2014 to 2015 received compensation. The county government also calls on fishermen to actively apply for insurance at the Yunlin District Fishermen's Association.
