Hsinchu City Government Holds Lecture on Foreign Nationals Starting Businesses in Taiwan for the First Time

The Hsinchu City Government held the first "Lecture on Foreign Nationals Starting Businesses in Taiwan and Youth Startup Idea Presentation" on the 19th at the Forte Hotel. More than 50 foreign nationals interested in starting businesses in Taiwan, from over 10 countries including the UK, the US, Germany and Canada, signed up to take part. During the event, the 6 major advantages of "International Entrepreneurship in Hsinchu City" were introduced, and local young entrepreneurs were invited to present their companies' operational highlights and services on site, in the hope of opening up a new opportunity for win-win economics across borders for young entrepreneurs and foreign entrepreneurs starting businesses in Taiwan.

Huang Chin-yuan, Director-General of the Hsinchu City Department of Labor, said that Mayor Lin Chih-chien attaches great importance to the energy of young people and actively promotes youth innovation and entrepreneurship, making Hsinchu a hub for startups. Therefore, the city government allocates funds every year to carry out the Local Industry Innovation and R&D Promotion Program (Small Business Innovation Research, SBIR), which not only encourages young people to start businesses but also aims to inject more youthful creative energy into local enterprises in Hsinchu.

Elias Ek, founder of Enspyre, said that starting a business is never easy, and it is even harder for foreign nationals who want to start one in a foreign place. He knows that Taiwan has many business operators from different countries, ranging from one-person companies to those with over a thousand employees, and many of them are doing quite well. He said that in his mind Hsinchu City seems to be full of engineers everywhere. This event drew enthusiastic registrations from foreign nationals from more than 10 countries, including the UK, the US, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Spain, South Africa, Indonesia, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Namibia, which shows that there are many foreign nationals in Taiwan who want to start businesses in Hsinchu, and this also proves that Hsinchu City has many entrepreneurial advantages.

During the event, the 6 advantages of "International Entrepreneurship in Hsinchu City" were introduced: Hsinchu City is the youngest city in the country (Lowest Average Age), has quality universities within its jurisdiction (Top Educational Institutes), a trillion-yuan output value (Trillion Output Value), the highest household income (Highest Household Income), abundant human resources (Excellent Human Resource) and is a technology city (Hi-Tech City). To highlight the characteristics and competitiveness of local young entrepreneurs, an exhibition area was also set up, in the hope of attracting the interest of foreign nationals who intend to start businesses in Taiwan and creating opportunities for cross-border cooperation.
