Scientific Disinfection Measures for Duck Farms

Through scientific disinfection, the transmission routes of infectious diseases can be cut off, thereby preventing and stopping the infection, occurrence, spread and epidemic of diseases, and effectively improving the production efficiency of duck farms.

1. Choose the right disinfectant. Based on your own duck house environment, the purpose and target of disinfection, epidemic trends and the duck disease situation, select disinfectants according to the principles of high efficiency, broad spectrum, economy and low side effects. Be sure to prepare the disinfectant strictly according to the instructions for use to improve its efficacy and achieve the purpose of disinfection. For routine disinfection, use 2-3% caustic soda solution, chlorine preparations, quaternary ammonium salts, iodine preparations, etc. for spray disinfection, potassium permanganate solution and aldehydes for fumigation disinfection, and 20% lime milk for floor disinfection.

2. Set up a disinfection pool. A disinfection room and disinfection pool should be set up in front of the main gate of the duck farm to disinfect vehicles and people entering and leaving the duck farm.

3. Environmental disinfection. The environment around the duck house should be kept clean, and it should be rinsed frequently with a high-pressure water gun. There must be no sewage, dirt, manure, etc. on the ground.

4. Disinfection of empty houses. During the empty period, the duck house, the area around the duck house, warehouses, office buildings, tools and equipment should be thoroughly cleaned, rinsed and disinfected. Clothing, shoes and even bedding used for the previous batch of ducks must be cleaned and disinfected, leaving no blind spots. 10 days before introducing ducks, the duck house should be sealed and fumigated with formalin plus potassium permanganate for 24 hours, then open the doors and windows for ventilation. Weeds should be removed and the soil turned within 2 m around the duck house, and a layer of quicklime should be spread on top.

5. Disinfection with ducks present. One day before disinfection, give the ducks 0.1% vitamin C or water-soluble multivitamin solution to drink to reduce stress. During disinfection, do not spray directly onto the ducks; instead, spray from the ceiling and walls down to the floor. Use warm water in winter and cool water in summer, and choose disinfectants with low irritation and high efficiency but low toxicity. Do not use acid or alkali types.

6. Drinking water disinfection. Add disinfectants (such as Baidusha, Qiangli Xiaoduling, sodium hypochlorite, etc.) to drinking water in the proper proportion, once a week is enough. For ducklings, generally 1‰ potassium permanganate in drinking water (warm water) is sufficient.

7. Duck manure disinfection. Carry out thorough disinfection once a month. Clear the manure from the exercise yard, remove the litter from the duck house and replace it with dry, clean litter. Duck manure can be disinfected by piling it up for biological heat fermentation and spraying disinfectant liquid on the surface of the manure pile.

8. Personnel disinfection. Before entering the production area, workers on the duck farm must change into disinfected work clothes and rubber shoes, etc., and disinfect under ultraviolet lamps for about 10 minutes before they may enter the duck farm. Outsiders are strictly prohibited from entering the duck farm. Long Zhaohui
