Cleverly feeding green fodder when raising geese in winter

Geese are herbivorous poultry, raising geesegenerally adopts a method based mainly on green fodder, suitably supplemented with concentrated feed. When feeding green fodder, the following techniques should be noted.

Green fodder should be fed immediately after being gathered and should not be piled up for a long time, to prevent the formation of nitrite from prolonged piling, which can easily cause nitrite poisoning after geese eat it.

After the green fodder is gathered and brought back, it should be washed with clean water to remove mud and sand, then cut short before feeding. If geese eat green fodder containing mud and sand for a long time, it can cause gastroenteritis.

Do not go to vegetable plots or grassland that have just been sprayed with pesticides to gather green vegetables or forage grass, to prevent pesticide poisoning. Generally, gathering can only be done 15 days after pesticide spraying.

Green vegetables containing a lot of oxalic acid should not be fed in large amounts, such as spinach and beet. This is because oxalic acid combines with the calcium added to the daily ration to form water-insoluble calcium oxalate, which cannot be digested and absorbed by geese. Feeding green fodder in large amounts over a long time can cause geese to suffer from rickets or paralysis, and female geese to lay thin-shelled or soft-shelled eggs.
