How to carry out scientific management of sows before breeding?
Feeding and management of multiparous sows before breeding. Multiparous sows generally show two estrous periods during the whole lactation period: the first estrous period occurs 27 days after farrowing, and mating during this period does not result in conception. The second estrous period occurs 23-32 days after farrowing, when the sow is at the peak of lactation, the signs of estrus are not obvious, and it is not easy to detect. Afterwards, due to the influence of lactation, estrus usually does not occur until 4-12 days after weaning, which is the period before breeding for the sow. Because sows consume a great deal of nutrition during lactation, most sows are in poor body condition and weak constitution, so feeding and management need to be strengthened to restore body condition as quickly as possible. In addition, lactation should be stopped as soon as possible to prevent mastitis.
Feeding and management of primiparous sows and replacement gilts before breeding. Short-term flushing before breeding of primiparous sows and replacement gilts can increase the number of ovulations by about 2. Specific methods: for primiparous sows, 3-4 days after weaning, after being handled according to the feeding and management methods for multiparous sows, flushing should be carried out immediately until the end of breeding; for replacement gilts, before reaching 70 kg in weight, they should be fed abundantly, and after 71 kg in weight they should be subjected to restricted feeding, so as not to affect estrus, breeding and reproduction. However, from 11-14 days before breeding until the end of breeding, short-term flushing should be carried out, with an additional 22.5 kg of mixed feed fed each day.
