Watering methods for greenhouse tomatoes

1. Water according to the characteristics of different growth stages. When transplanting tomatoes, water thoroughly; 3-5 days after transplanting, water again to help the seedlings recover; then wait until the first cluster of fruit grows to the size of an egg yolk before watering again. Since leaf transpiration is low in the early fruiting period, water generally once every 7-10 days. As the plants grow larger, the number of set fruits increases and leaf transpiration increases, so the watering interval should be shortened and the amount of water increased, keeping the soil alternating between dry and moist.

2. Water according to growth performance. Deep green plants, glossy leaves and spreading central leaves are signs that moisture is appropriate. If the central leaves are shrunken and do not spread out, the leaf color is dark green, and the leaves droop slightly on sunny days, these are signs of water shortage, and water needs to be replenished promptly.

3. For watering time, choose to water in the morning on sunny days. After watering, ventilate and remove moisture. If watering in the afternoon, evening or on cloudy and rainy days, it is easy to cause excessive humidity in the greenhouse and trigger diseases such as downy mildew. Watering at noon is also not advisable, so as to avoid high-temperature watering affecting the physiological functions of the root system. Tomatoes should be watered before harvest, which can increase fruit yield.
