Points to note when introducing blueberries

In recent years, blueberries, as a premium health fruit, have been increasingly valued by people, and deep-processed blueberry products have been emerging one after another at high prices. Because wild blueberry resources are limited, large-scale artificial cultivation is imperative, and it is also a new project for farmers to get rich. Below, the author introduces several points to note when purchasing blueberry seedlings:

1. When purchasing seedlings, the first thing is to choose the right variety. A variety is the key to your success or failure. When we farmers cultivate blueberries, we must choose large-fruited varieties, that is, blueberry varieties suitable for cultivation in the north.

2. It is best to choose two-year-old or three-year-old or older large seedlings for cultivation. Choose robust seedlings with 3~5 branches, over 30 cm, free of pests and diseases, with complete root systems and no mechanical damage, for cultivation.

3. It is best to choose varieties propagated in nutrient pots for purchase. Such seedlings have a high survival rate and can be cultivated at any time in spring, summer and autumn, without being limited by season.

4. Before the seedlings are brought back, the land must be prepared in advance and the acidity adjusted, because blueberries are perennial fruit trees, and one planting can grow for several decades, so long-term planning must be done before choosing a site.

5. In terms of variety selection, northern highbush varieties such as Northland, Duke, Sierra, and Berkeley should be chosen. Li Chen
