How do you prune greenhouse grapes in winter? Remember these four steps

The four steps of winter pruning for greenhouse grapes

Step one: Observe. Look at the tree shape, tree vigor, and variety. These intuitive factors are the basis for forming a pruning plan. In addition to the three things to observe above, you also need to look at the balance of vigor among the different parts of the tree and the relationship between the canopy sizes of neighboring plants. This is what is meant by: "balance internally, be considerate of neighbors."

Step two: Get to work. Pruning must follow a sequence. Generally, first remove disordered branches to form a rough framework, then prune the scaffold branches and fruiting mother branches from top to bottom or from bottom to top. When pruning, pay attention to the principle of "long first, then short; more first, then less." This is mainly aimed at the fruiting mother branches. Wounds caused by pruning should be promptly coated with a wound-healing antiseptic film to protect the growth of healing tissue at the wound and prevent pathogens from infecting through the wound. After pruning, the fruiting mother branches and scaffold branches must also be tied. The tying method should follow the principle of tying long branches flat, tying medium branches at an angle, and not tying short branches.

Step three: Check. First check the pruning of the scaffold branches, such as the angles, the occupancy rate of the trellis surface, and so on. Then check the pruning status of the mother branches at each fruiting position, including the retained length after pruning, the position and direction of the branch groups, and so on.

Step four: Coordinate. In combination with the above four steps, also use the hole-piercing technique to apply "Flower Promotion King No. 1" so that the fruit trees bloom earlier next year, bloom more, do not drop flowers, and bear firm fruit. On the tender bark of the trunk or the lower part of the main branches, use a conical needle to pierce two rows of holes around the circumference, with a spacing of 10 cm, a hole spacing of 2 cm, and a hole diameter of 3 mm. Use a brush to press around the holes and apply the Flower Promotion King cream.
