TPP Yunlin Industry Symposium, Local Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial Groups Participate Enthusiastically

The TPP Industry Communication Event - Yunlin Local Industry Symposium was held on the morning of the 26th at the Yunlin County Government, chaired by County Magistrate Lee Chin-yung. A delegation from the Ministry of Economic Affairs TPP Communication Project Office made a special trip south to give the presentation and hold discussions with local Yunlin businesspeople.

Since the TPP is an international trade organization that our country has been actively striving to join in recent years, and the recent opening to US pork has become an issue of concern across all sectors of society, this meeting attracted enthusiastic participation from various local agricultural, industrial and commercial groups in Yunlin. More than ten organizations took part, including the Industrial Association, the Commercial Association, the Small and Medium Enterprise Association, the Towel Industry Development Association, the Pig Farming Association and the Aquaculture Fisheries Development Association, with more than forty people participating in total.

In the final exchange and discussion session, attending businesspeople including Yang Kuo-chih, Chairman of the Yunlin County Commercial Association, and Hsieh Kun-jung, Executive Director of the Small and Medium Enterprise Association, actively raised questions on topics such as the impact of joining the TPP on agriculture, the government's supporting and subsidy measures, and the effect of US pork imports on the health of businesspeople and the public. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Council of Agriculture responded respectively according to their areas of responsibility and promised to take the suggestions raised at the meeting back with them. The interaction between the two sides at this discussion was lively, and the meeting concluded with a full exchange of opinions between industry and government.

Su Kung-chih, Director of the Construction Department, stated that the county government cares about the development of local industries in Yunlin, and that as long as businesspeople have needs, similar meetings or activities will be held from time to time. On the one hand, these promote the central government's policies and directives, and on the other hand they allow the voices of local businesspeople to be fully conveyed to the central government, with the county government serving as a bridge for communication between the two sides.
