Feeding and Management of First-Time Pregnant Cows

In the early stage of pregnancy, a cow's nutritional needs are not much different from those before mating. For cows in the mid-pregnancy stage (4-5 months pregnant), the daily ration can be formulated according to the nutritional standards for dairy cows in the dry period. By the 6th month of pregnancy, due to the rapid development of the fetus and the mother's own need to store some nutrients before lactation, its nutritional needs differ greatly from before; some concentrate feed can be added to increase the nutritional value of the daily ration by about 10%, but over-fattening of the cow in late pregnancy should be prevented, as it may lead to difficult calving or other disorders. First-time pregnant cows only need to maintain a moderate body condition.

30 days before calving, first-time pregnant cows can have their feed amount appropriately increased on the basis of the feeding standard, but the feeding amount must not exceed 1% of the first-time pregnant cow's body weight; at the same time, the content of vitamins, calcium, phosphorus and trace elements should also be increased in the daily ration.
