What aspects should be paid attention to during the cultivation of garland chrysanthemum?
Land preparation and fertilization: Choose neutral or slightly acidic loam with deep, loose, moist soil, rich in organic matter, convenient drainage and irrigation, and good water and fertilizer retention. Deeply plow the soil before sowing, and apply 1000 kg of decomposed manure per mu. Make raised beds 1.5 m wide with furrows 20-25 cm deep.
Sowing: Garland chrysanthemum plants are small and have a short growing period, so they can be intercropped or relay-cropped with other vegetables. In production, direct sowing is mostly used, and both broadcasting and drilling are acceptable. For broadcasting, use 4-5 kg of seed per mu. For drilling, use 2-2.5 kg of seed per mu, with a row spacing of 10 cm. To promote germination, soak the seeds in warm water at 30°C-35°C for 24 hours before sowing, then wash and remove them, place them under 15°C-20°C conditions to germinate, rinse with clean water every day, and sow when the seeds show white after 3-4 days. In spring, choose a sunny day for sowing, cover with plastic film after sowing, properly control water after emergence, and maintain a suitable temperature to promote robust seedling growth. In summer and autumn, when temperatures are high, cover with shade nets or other coverings after sowing to keep the soil moist. During the seedling stage, thin the seedlings in time to ensure they have a certain nutritional area.
Field management: Keep the soil moist from sowing to emergence, and full emergence can be achieved in 6-7 days. After emergence in winter and spring sowings, watering should be properly controlled, and thinning should be carried out when the seedlings have 2-3 true leaves. For broadcasting, keep strong seedlings at 6 cm square for large-leaf garland chrysanthemum, and at 3-4 cm square for medium-leaf or fine-leaf garland chrysanthemum; for drilling, the plant spacing is 5 cm for large-leaf garland chrysanthemum, 4 cm for medium-leaf garland chrysanthemum, and 3 cm for fine-leaf garland chrysanthemum. Provide sufficient water and keep the soil moist. When the plant height is about 10 cm, apply 1-2 topdressings of quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer with irrigation, and begin harvesting when the plant height is about 20 cm. After the first cut, water and fertilize again to promote the development of side branches, and harvest again after 20-30 days. Each time, apply 500 kg of decomposed human and livestock manure water and 3-4 kg of urea per mu.
Pest and disease control: 1. Diseases. The main diseases include damping-off, leaf spot, and sclerotinia. To control damping-off, the focus should be on strengthening comprehensive agricultural control measures, paying attention to sowing at the proper time and preventing overly dense sowing and leggy seedlings; for chemical control, chlorothalonil wettable powder can be used. For leaf spot, crop rotation should be implemented and field management strengthened. 2. Insect pests. The main pests include cabbage webworm and aphids, and the control methods are the same as for generally cultivated vegetables, but avoid applying highly toxic or moderately toxic pesticides.
Harvest at the right time: Harvest can be done when the plant height reaches 20 cm. Cut at the base of the stem while leaving 2-3 leaves to promote the development of side branches.
