How to manage chives in winter? All the practical tips are here
After November the weather gradually turns cold; let the plants die back naturally in the field so that nutrients flow fully back to the roots.
Clear the withered grass from the field; if the ground has already frozen, cover it appropriately to help it thaw.
Remove the soil between the rows, open furrows and pull out the small bulbs for cold stimulation and sunlight exposure to break dormancy. After 3 to 5 days, when the chive roots change color, spread fine soil mixed with manure, rake it level, and irrigate once with "Genshitong + insecticide" to control pests.
Water thoroughly, set up 1 windbreak for every 2 beds, insert arched bamboo strips over the beds, and cover them with film. Cover with straw mats to increase temperature and keep warmth, maintaining 20°C to 25°C during the day. Once the plants have grown, ventilate to reduce humidity and prevent disease. On cloudy days, as long as the temperature inside the beds does not drop, uncover the straw mats to let the chives receive scattered light.
Spray Shucai Zhuangjingling at the right time to promote thick plant stems, thick leaves, fresh leaf color, lush plants and a strong natural flavor. It can also improve disaster resistance, reduce the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and lower residual toxicity. After 30 to 40 days of covering, harvest the first crop.
After harvesting, promptly spray the ecological agent Xin Gaozhi Mo to prevent infection by pathogens. When the seedlings grow to 5 to 10 cm, apply urea once, water once, and then cover again. The second crop can be harvested 25 days after the first crop, and the third crop can be harvested 30 to 35 days after the second crop. After the weather turns warm, remove the covering promptly.
