Overwintering management measures for autumn-planted garlic

The garlic overwintering cultivation method can effectively improve the survival rate and harvest yield of overwintering garlic during the growing period. With this method, garlic planting density can be raised from the original 15,000-18,000 plants per mu to 45,000-60,000 plants, meeting the requirements of rational close planting, increasing land use efficiency, achieving stable overwintering without damaging seedlings, reaching a seedling establishment rate of over 98% after green-up, raising yield by 40%-50%, with trace element content no different from garlic grown by conventional methods. Growing garlic with the overwintering cultivation method is simple and easy to operate, with low production cost, and when selecting seed garlic, the small clove garlic in the center can be used for garlic chive (yellow garlic) production, further improving the economic benefits of planting, raising the added value of agricultural products, and having good promotional value. At the same time, on the premise of thoroughly watering the freezing water, flat-laying warm fertilizer, that is, spreading cow dung on the ground 4-5 cm thick, plus plastic film mulching to keep the soil warm and fill the freezing cracks, has achieved the purpose of heat preservation and moisture conservation. In order to bring garlic to market early before the Spring Festival, a cold shed can be added over the planted garlic 7-10 days after the soil freezes, so that the garlic matures early and the economic benefits of planting are improved. The specific management methods are as follows:

Garlic scape production period: water once every 7 days, stop watering 4 days before harvesting the scapes.

Garlic bulb enlargement period: within 1-5 days after harvesting the scapes, apply an additional 2-3 kg of nitrogen fertilizer and 2-4 kg of potassium fertilizer per mu, and water once every 5-6 days, stopping watering 5-7 days before harvest.

Management after seedling establishment: after the garlic seedlings grow three leaves, water once to promote seedling growth, and carry out cultivating and weeding; before the soil freezes, water once with overwintering water, spread 9 cubic meters of warm fertilizer per mu at an average thickness of 5 cm, cover with plastic film and press it down firmly, filling the freezing cracks, thus achieving the purpose of heat preservation and moisture conservation.

Garlic flower bud and phosphorus bud differentiation period: when the weather gradually warms at the Beginning of Spring, remove the film and water once with green-up water, and apply 3-4 kg of nitrogen fertilizer per mu.
