How to improve the survival rate of baby rabbits? The key is to pass five hurdles well
The first is the birth hurdle. Within 10 days of birth, Rex rabbits are born naked and hairless, with poor thermoregulation ability. Too high or too low an ambient temperature may lead to death. During this period, the optimal temperature of 20-25°C should be maintained.
The second is the nursing hurdle. In addition to being rich in nutrients such as protein and vitamins, the mother rabbit's colostrum also contains large amounts of immune antibodies. If newborn baby rabbits can consume enough colostrum, it can strengthen their constitution, improve disease resistance, and reduce deaths.
The third is the supplementary feeding hurdle. Baby rabbits grow rapidly and their nutrient needs increase. After their eyes open at 12 days of age, mother's milk alone can no longer meet their needs, so supplementary feeding must begin. Starting from day 13, feed a small amount of soft, easily digestible tender green grass and green vegetables first, then gradually add high-quality mixed feed.
The fourth is the weaning hurdle. Wean the baby rabbits at 30-35 days of age, and feed them forage and feed that is small in volume, easy to digest, and high in nutritional level. Keep 2-4 rabbits per cage.
The fifth is the disease prevention hurdle. The diseases that cause relatively serious harm to young rabbits include coccidiosis, pasteurellosis, rabbit plague, and others. Once disease occurs, it often causes mass deaths. Therefore, immunization and medicated feed for disease prevention should be carried out early, and the hygiene of rabbit houses and rabbit cages should be maintained daily, with regular disinfection work.
